Our History

A Lifetime of Service and Compassion

In 1948, Sterling and Arlene Nelson followed their dream and established a funeral home on the corner of 400 North and Main Street in Logan. The Nelsons dedicated their lives to serving those in need with compassion, respect, and dignity and established a tradition of trust with the citizens of Cache Valley. A new funeral chapel was erected in 1961 at 162 East 400 North, Logan, and a viewing area added some time later in Smithfield.

In 1969 John and Beverly Wheeler joined the funeral home and worked alongside the Nelsons, excelling with their service-oriented attitude and their commitment to professional excellence. In 1979 G. Ward Taylor of Rogers and Taylor Funeral Home in Tremonton became affiliated with Nelson Funeral Home, having worked with Sterling in his formative years as a funeral director. In 1982, Michael J. Chatterton joined the Nelson Funeral Home team as a funeral director, and in 1996 David M. Simmons was added to the staff.

Fifty years later, we at Nelson Funeral Home, are indebted to Sterling, Arlene and their family. We are appreciative of their hard work and dedication to serving our community.

The tradition of trust initiated by the Nelsons over 50 years ago continues today. We not only take time to understand individual needs before and during the services, we continue to assist families after arrangements have been completed. We understand that the love of a family never grows old - it just grows. A love that lasts forever.
