Winifred Amacher Johnson

January 2, 1922 — March 15, 2004

Winifred Amacher Johnson, 82, passed away peacefully at home in Providence, UT on Monday, March 15, 2004 of congestive heart failure. Winnie was born January 2, 1922 in Logan, Utah to Swiss immigrants, Adolph Amacher and Amalie Hollenweger Amacher. She was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and faithfully lived its precepts, loving and serving everyone around her. She was a graduate of Logan High School, Utah State University and did graduate work in Child Development at prestigious Merrill Palmer before teaching at Oklahoma State and USU. After her marriage to Vere Hodges Johnson, December 19, 1947 in the Logan Temple, she embarked on her real life?s work, that of being a wife and mother. Winnie often talked about the happy years of her life spent in Roosevelt, UT, Florida, Logan and finally Providence. In each place the Johnsons made close and lasting friends. Winnie and Vere found their mission to Frankfurt, Germany in 1985-86 highly rewarding. She was also grateful for the twenty-one missions served by her posterity. Her interests were many, but her life was simple, revolving around her children, grandchildren and friends. Everyone loved to be at Grandma?s. Her house was constantly full of people who came to feel the interest and love she gave so freely. Her presence was a refuge. Being loved and accepted by her, made where she was ?home?. This love, felt by all who knew her, was her gift to the world, and with her gone we wonder where we will go to find it. She was preceded in death by her father and mother, and two brothers Enoch and Aaron. She is survived by her husband, sister Leah Holmstead Hap of Logan, UT and children, Rand Nancy of Stansbury Park, UT, Janice Stauffer John of Bountiful, UT, Kathy Thatcher David of Paradise, UT, Paul Jill of Sandy, UT, Bradley Rosemarie of Enumclaw, WA, Todd Diane of Annandale, NJ, Scott Melanie of Snellville, GA, and Robert Mary of Providence, UT, fifty-five grandchildren, and twenty-one great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held Friday, March 19, 2004 at 11:00 A.M. at the Providence South Stake Center, 360 East 450 North, Millville. Viewing will be held Thursday from 6:00-8:00 PM at the Nelson Funeral Home, 162 East 400 North, Logan and Friday at the church, 9:30-10:30 A.M. Interment will follow the services at the Beaver Dam cemetery.
