William Milam Twitty

Maj. William M. Twitty, U.S. Army retired, Chandler, AZ, died June 10, 2008, due to complications related to age. Born in Lampasas, TX in 1919, he would have turned 89 on August 1. Dad, Grandpa, "Poppie" was preceded in death by his cherished wife, Maxine Hendry Twitty of Wellsville, UT; his parents, Reverend Richard Bryant and Mary Mabel Twitty; and his brother Richard. Bill received a B.S. in business at Trinity University and attended the University of Texas School of Law before entering military service. Bill and Maxine met in Logan, Utah while Bill was teaching ROTC at Utah State University. A career U.S. Army officer for 25 years Quartermaster Corps, he was a veteran of World War II and the Korean War. He and his family lived throughout the U.S., and in Okinawa and Venezuela. After retiring from active military duty, he worked as Director of Food Services for the Las Cruces, New Mexico Public Schools for 17 years. Bill joined the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in 1971; their family was sealed together for eternity in the Provo Utah Temple. Later, he and Maxine moved to Mesa, then Chandler, AZ where they volunteered in the Mesa Temple for 20 years until Maxine's death in April 2005. A great source of joy for Bill was serving as a sealer in the Mesa Arizona Temple for 19 years. Bill is survived by his children, Mike Twitty Barbara, St. George, UT; Nanci Wudel John, Mesa, AZ; and Becky Woods Tom, Chandler, AZ. He took great pride in his grandchildren and their spouses: Brandon Woods Nanouka; Blake Woods; Tricia Wudel Baird Bret; Robyn Wudel Rickeberg Jason; David Wudel Amy; Johny Wudel Corinne; Chris Twitty Tandy; Chad Twitty Jamie; Casey Twitty Amy; and Cortney Twitty. He is also survived by two nephews: Bill Twitty Jacque, Tucson, AZ and John Twitty Carol, Hutchinson, MN. Bill and Maxine also adored their 21 great-grandchildren. Following Maxine's death, Bill was comforted by his faithful friend, Lulu, his beloved bulldog who never left his side. Arizona arrangements there are no funeral services and transportation are being handled by Bunker's Garden Chapel in Mesa. A viewing will be held Saturday, June 14, in Logan, Utah, from noon to 1:30 p.m. at Nelson Mortuary, 162 East 400 North, with a graveside service and interment following at the Wellsville Cemetery, Wellsville, UT. Major Twitty will be buried with full military honors and will always be remembered for his great love of family, church and country.
