William Stanley Richardson

William Stanley Richardson, 94, died December 9, 2012, with his wife and family at his side in the Transitional Unit at Logan Regional Hospital, Logan, Utah. A viewing will be held Thursday, December 13, 2012, 6:00 to 8:00 PM at the Nelson Funeral Home, 162 E. 400 North, Logan, Utah. Funeral services will be held at noon on Friday, December 14, 2012, at the LDS church, 1260 N. 1600 East, Logan, Utah. Prior the funeral services, there will be a viewing from 10:30 to 11:30 AM.
Stan was born on September 13, 1918, in Smithfield, Utah to Richard Harper Richardson and Marion Alice Vaughan. He attended school in Smithfield and graduated from North Cache High School.
During World War II, he served three years in the Army's 96th Signal Battalion, Company C, in China, Burma, and India. For 35 years, Stan worked for Utah Power and Light as a lineman. Being a lineman allowed him to be a major contributor when the lights were first installed at the Smithfield ball park. After retirement, he spent time farming.
For many years he played baseball for Smithfield, and later, he coached the team. As a southpaw pitcher, he established a well-deserved reputation for his pitching. Those who respected his pitching prowess called him "Hook". Stan considered 24 strikeouts in one game as his greatest accomplishment. On June 25, 2011, the Smithfield Blue Sox's honored him as the oldest living Blue Sox. In addition to baseball, he enjoyed hunting and trap shooting with his family. Throughout his life, Stan planted flower gardens. He loves roses and pretty flowers.
In 1942, Stan married Sara Ann Cooley deceased, and they had two daughters and five sons. Their children and their spouses are Gwenyth McFarland, Susan and Larry Baldwin, Bill and Kathleen Richardson, Sam and Debbie Richardson, Randy Scott Richardson deceased, Kelly and Karen Richardson, Tim and Debbie Richardson. Stan and Sara have 24 grandchildren, 66 great-grandchildren and 10 great-great-grandchildren. In 1967, Stan married Natalie Erickson deceased, and he helped her raise her four children. Natalie's children and their spouses are Pam and Bob Hill, Terry and Genie Erickson, Scott and Ruth Erickson, and Kevin and Kristine Erickson. In 2002, Stan married Glenna Hyde. For several years, they resided at Pioneer Valley Lodge, and for the past few months, they have lived at Legacy House. They enjoyed visits from family and friends. Glenna's children and their spouses are Larry and Sherill Raymond, Craig and Louise Raymond, Darrell and Emily Raymond both deceased, and Stephan and Marry Anne Raymond. Stan has been a father, grandfather, and great-grandfather to many children.
