With a song on his lips, William Edzell Beckstead rejoiced and went home. On October 16, 2017 he returned to his Heavenly Fathers presence.
Born June 7, 1927 to Glen Beckstead and Leona Thayne. He was born in West Jordan, Utah on the old homestead. Bill grew up farming, riding his favorite horse, Zebbie and milking Jersey cows. He enjoyed playing football, basketball, drums and boxing. He served an honorable mission to the Western States.
Bill met the love of his life, Vera Butterfield on a blind date and later married her in the Salt Lake temple. Their honeymoon was cut short because Bill was drafted and served during the Korean War.
In 1966 they moved to Trenton to fulfill his desire to have his own dairy farm. His heart was and will always be in Trenton with its land and his beautiful Holsteins.
Bill had a strong testimony of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and bore witness of his testimony to all he met. He had many callings, he loved working with boys and the scouting program but his favorite was when he was a sunbeam teacher.
His wife Vera preceded his in death in 1996. Bill and Vera had five children, Dawnetta and Cleon Griffin, Clarkston, Carolee and Ron Hepner, Petersboro, Cherilyn and Scott Miller, Smithfield, Brent and Trudy Beckstead, Trenton, Gayla Beckstead.
Losing Vera was one of life’s challenges for Bill. He then met and married Caroline Christofferson who helped put the light back in his eyes. They traveled the world together, laughing and dancing all along the way.
Bills pride and joy was his family. He was the proud father of five, grandfather of 19 grandchildren and 49 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by Vera, Caroline, Dawnetta and Gayla.
