Willard Theron Hanesn

September 29, 1938 — January 30, 2013

Willard Theron Hansen II, Born Sept 29, 1938 in Smithfield, Cache, Utah first son to Willard Theron Hansen I and Orris Mae Allen. He was raised in Smithfield and then later the family moved to Trenton, Utah where he was taught how to work the farm. This is where he lived and spent many good years of his life. He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and advanced in all offices of the priesthood. He was called to serve in the Central Atlantic States Mission from 1958-1960. After fulfilling the two year mission, he married his high school sweetheart Margaret Griffin in the Logan temple Dec. 8, 1960. He studied at USU graduating with both a Bachelor's and Master's degree in Horticulture and Agronomy. He worked in California at the Rod McClellan Acers Orchid nursery located in South San Francisco California. While in California he served as Elders Quorum first counselor, and as an early morning seminary instructor. With his family they returned back to Utah where he began working at USDA Forage and Range Research Lab, as a research scientist, working there for 27 years.
He served as an Elder's Quorum Instructor, President in the Smithfield 2nd Ward. Later he served as Second Counselor in the Smithfield 3rd ward Bishopric, Ward Clerk, Smithfield High Councilman, Young Men's President, and Scoutmaster. He received the North Cache District Award of Merit, Silver Beaver, and the Cache Valley Council Commissioner Award. He served 8 years as JLT Bridger Badge council training leader. He and Margaret served as Stake Young Married's Leaders. They also served together as Co-chairman for the Smithfield Health Days for two years. He and Margaret were later divorced and he moved to Layton, Utah where he served as Membership clerk of the Chapel Park LDS Ward.
He is proceeded in death by his parents, his sister Joan Snow, and a baby brother stillborn, and his son Eric Theron, and a grandson Douglas Hoth. He is survived by his sisters Jeri, Sheri, and a brother Dick. He has six children: AnnaLee Tillman, Melanie Hoth, Eric, Shon M. Hansen, Deron Griffin Hansen, JoLyn Young. He has 24 grand-children and 7 great-grand-children.
A viewing will be held Friday, Feb. 1st from 6:30-8:00 in Smithfield at the Nelson Funeral Home 85 S. Main. A viewing will also be held Saturday, Feb 2nd from 10:30 to 11:30. His Funeral will be held in Amalga LDS Church 6521 N 2400 W at 12:00. A Family dinner will be held after at the Amalga LDS Ward building.
