Wesley Sampson Jr.

March 26, 1931 — September 16, 2004

Wesley Sampson Jr., 73, of Logan, Utah, passed away peacefully in his sleep on September 16, 2004 after a long battle with many medical complications. Wesley was the second of eight children born to Wesley Sampson Sr. and Fern McCullough in Delta, Utah. He received his education in Milford and Delta High Schools. In 1947 Wesley enlisted as a Private, driving trucks in the Army Air Corps at the age of 16. He proudly served in many duty stations at home and overseas, contributing to the reconstruction efforts of WWII, and establishing bases during the Cold War. At the completion of Wesley?s 21 years of service, he had attained the rank of Senior Master Sergeant and was a logistical computer software programmer for the Strategic Air Command located in Omaha, Nebraska. During that time, he married Ruby Louise Alford Stephens in 1950, fathering his first two children, Mona and Bruce, and becoming a father to his new stepson, John. They were later divorced. After Wesley?s retirement, he was employed as a systems analyst for Univac Computers currently Unisys Computer Corporation and eventually became a District Manager of Technical Support. He later began his second retirement after 22 years of employment. It was during his time at Univac Computers that he met Vicki Cheryl Davis; they were married in August of 1972 and had two more children, Kenneth and Michael. The family was sealed in the Provo Temple in June of l977. After Wesley?s second retirement in 1992, he eagerly moved from Aurora, Colorado to Logan to be closer to his relatives and spend more time outdoors. Wes enjoyed participation on the City of Logan Civil Service Commission, where he served from August of 1995 to December of 2003. Wes had many hobbies including tinkering in the garage, golf, football, camping and hiking. Wes especially loved to travel and spent many summers driving and touring the sites, both within the states and abroad, during his various employments. He spent many of his golden years touring the United States in his RV. Always an avid sports fan, Wes would rarely miss his sons? athletic events, including baseball, soccer, gymnastics, wrestling, football, basketball, and rugby. He continued to feed his passion for football by attending almost all the Logan Grizzlies home games and many away in the past twelve years. As a member of the LDS church, Wesley served in many stake and ward callings and was an Officiator in the Logan Temple from 1994 to 1997. Above all, Wesley?s greatest love was his family. He often had his heart on his sleeve when he spoke of his children, was continually doting and bragging about his grandchildren, and never spoke ill of his wife. His family would like to express deepest thanks to Drs. Reid, Dean, Goddard, and Clayson at LDS Hospital, and Dr. Nordell Brown and the wonderful nurses with IHC Home Care in Logan. Wesley is survived by his wife, Vicki; daughter, Mona of Martinez, California; sons: Bruce Carmen of The Colony, Texas; stepson, John Stephens of Ayer, Massachusetts; Kenneth Debbie of North Ogden, Utah; Michael Anne of Midvale, Utah; seven and a half grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. He will be greatly missed as his memory will last through the generations. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, September 20, 2004 at the Cliffside 2nd Ward Chapel, 1350 Eastridge Road, Logan. Friends and family may call Sunday evening from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the ward and Monday morning from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. prior to services.
