Wendell Johnson Munk

Wendell Johnson Munk On December 30th, after 96 wonderful years, Wendell past away peacefully, surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Benson on Nov 28th 1915 to Lionel Lehi and Gurena Sophornia Johnson Munk. He was the second of seven children. Clodean Riches, Bonnie Woolf, and sister in law, Helen Munk survive him and he is preceded in death by 2 sisters and 2 brothers; Melba Hansen, Venna Kowallis, Lionel Jr. Munk and Lamarr Munk. He attended Cache County Schools and Utah Agricultural College. Wendell met his sweetheart, Beth Hill, at the Persianna Ballroom in Preston Idaho in 1942. He enlisted in the United States Air Force to serve his country and on Nov 2nd 1944, while home on furlough, he married her, the love of his life, in the Logan LDS Temple where they were sealed for time and all eternity. Shortly after they were married Wendell left with the 336th Airborne Squadron, headed to the South Pacific for WWII. After returning home from the service, Wendell and Beth made their home on a dairy farm in Benson where they raised 4 beloved children; Beverly Brad Bateson of Providence, Geraldine Al Dunn and LuAnn John Hansen from Smithfield, and Craig Susan Munk of Benson. He is also survived by 17 grandchildren one deceased, 42 great grandchildren 3 on the way and 2 deceased, and 4 great-great grandchildren one on the way. His cherished Beth passed away July 11th 2004. He was an active member of the LDS church and has held many callings. Wendell lived in the family home in Benson where he cared for a beautiful yard and garden every summer until he was 93. He has lived in Terrace Grove Assisted Living for the past 2 1/2 years. He was an amazing neighbor and friend to all who knew him. He has been a wonderful father and husband, always setting a great example for his family. Wendell's greatest joy in life was his children and grandchildren. A viewing will be held at Nelson Funeral Home on Tuesday, January 3rd from 6-8pm. 162 East 400 North in Logan Funeral Services will be held at the Benson LDS Church on Wednesday, January 4th at 10:00 am with a viewing held from 8:30-9:30 am, 3432 North 3000 West in Benson Burial will be in the Logan City Cemetery with full military honors. The family would like to thank the caregivers and staff of Terrace Grove Assisted Living, Alpine Hospice, and Dr Vera Carlson for the compassionate care they've given to our dad. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Wendell's name to Terrace Grove Assisted Living or Alpine Hospice.
