Tremonton -Our darling Wanda died peacefully at her home surrounded by her adoring husband and family on the golden autumn afternoon of October 22, 2003. She fought with courage and determination for five years against a combination of chronic illnesses. Never a complaint was heard from her, nor was her sweet smile dimmed by the pain and debility she endured. She died as she lived, a champion to the end. She was third in a family of six daughters born to Reuben F. and Amy G. Hyde in Fairview, Idaho on April 22, 1921. As a child she worked hard on the small family farm with her sisters. She graduated from Preston High School where she played viola in the school orchestra. While working at Dick's Café in Logan she fell in love with Chase Peterson, a handsome young man who caught her eye with his winning personality and snappy socks! On November 12, 1940, they married in Brigham City, Utah and were later sealed in the Logan LDS Temple. They shared 63 years together. They are the parents of one son and four daughters. She was left at home with two small children when Chase was called to duty in World War II. When he returned they relocated from the Logan area to the Bear River Valley. They worked together in many business ventures, each bringing their own special talent to their partnership. They owned and operated several restaurants in the Tremonton and Logan areas. After retirement, she and Chase developed their old farm property into residential lots. Wanda watched with great interest as that endeavor took shape. Chase and Wanda spent many happy times in their Lake Havasu home and their cabin in Logan Canyon. Wanda loved working with young people. She worked extensively in church drama activities, writing and directing award winning road shows and plays. She was a 4-H leader, always sharing her spirit of fun and knowledge with all the youngsters she led. She never stopped reaching out, ever making new friends of people young and old. To our family she was indeed a teacher of life. Because of her, thunder, lightning and rain are wonders for us to behold. We know all about bugs and plants and rock formations! She has been a treasured example of grace, kindness, wisdom and beauty. She loved helping others, and always made an extra effort to love those who weren't always the easiest to love because she knew they needed it the most. Wanda taught her children how to work and how to play. Always our cheerleader, she was there with encouragement and loved our successes as much as we did. Her sense of humor was delicious! She never complained and never gave up, no matter what the circumstances. She and Chase were Mr. & Mrs. Santa Claus for many years and loved sharing their good cheer with many. Wanda, known affectionately as Grandma Pete, loved her family. Her grandchildren were a great source of pride for her and she could always be counted on for support whether it be monetary or in the form of applause. She was an avid writer and we will always treasure the histories she wrote of our family, her life and Chase's war experiences. Her family holds her in great esteem for the example she set during her illness. To our father Chase we wish to express our heartfelt gratitude for the kind and loving care that he provided her, meeting her every need for the past few years. They were very devoted to each other. She is survived by her husband Chase, her son and four daughters; Steve Cindy
Peterson, Moab, Brenda Chris Sorensen, Debra Bryan Loveland, Brigham City, Candice Michael Bird, Gloria Jean Michael Thompson Frank, Tremonton, fourteen grandchildren and fourteen great grandchildren. Also surviving are three sisters, Jean Martin, Lake Almanor, CA, Maxine Roberts, Salmon, ID, and Berdean Crabtree, Riverdale, UT. She was preceded in death by her parents, two sisters, Grace Munk and JaNell Hollaway and son-in-law, Carlos Frank. Our special thanks to Kim, Carol, Mavis, Sarah and Shelsea of IHC Hospice for their excellent and loving care. Rest peacefully, darling Mom, the best is yet to come...we love you and will keep you in our hearts always.
