Tremonton, UT ? Wanda Jensen Johnsen, 95, passed away Friday, June 29, 2007 at Our House of Tremonton where she had loving care from all the staff and from her fellow live-in residents. She was born February 2, 1912 in Bennington, ID to Leon Peter and Janet Christina Speirs Jensen. During the summer of 1912 she moved with her brother, Harold and her parents to east Bear River City, UT. Wanda married Vernon Leroy Johnsen May 29, 1934 in the Logan LDS Temple. Wanda finished a two-year teaching degree at Utah State University and subsequently received two four-year degrees: one in education and one in music from Utah State. She taught school for many years in the Bear River City School with many accomplishments and many appreciative students for the outstanding way in which she taught. During the summers when Vernon was working on the farm she would cook large meals for those helping with the hay or threshing grain and was always there with food on an overnight irrigation turn. Wanda was a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints having served, besides other callings, as organist and chorister for many church organizations. Wanda was an accomplished pianist and organist and played in the Ogden LDS Temple and many activities including a quartet of her husband and three sons.
Wanda is survived by two of her three children: J Roger LaRae Johnsen, Ogden; Lloyd Faye Johnsen, Oak Harbor, WA; Daughter-in-law, Marcia Johnsen, Tremonton. She is also survived by 13 grandchildren, 43 great grandchildren and two great, great grandchildren, a brother, Roy Marie Jensen, Chicago, IL, sister-in-law, Vida Jensen, Bear River City and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, son, Dean Brent Johnsen, and two granddaughters: Teresa Johnsen Loertscher and Tamette Johnsen. Her brothers: Harold and Vay Jensen, sister, Zona Wakefield and sister-in-law, LaVon Bower Jensen also preceded her in death.
The family would like to thank the people at Our House of Tremonton, where mother lived, for the last 11 years and the fine care and love which they provided during mother?s last months of life.
A funeral service will be held Tuesday, July 3, 2007at 12:00 noon at the Bear River Ward Chapel, 5870 North 4700 West, Bear River City. Family and friends may call from 5:30-7:30 p.m. Monday, July 2, 2007 at Rogers and Taylor Funeral Home, 111 North 100 East, Tremonton and Tuesday from 10:30-11:30 a.m. at the church. Interment at Bear River City Cemetery.
The family suggests donations to the LDS Missionary or Perpetual Education Fund, in mother?s memory.
