Voniel Jensen Reid

October 18, 1929 — November 24, 2023

Our Mother, Grandmother and Great Grandmother, Voniel Jensen Reid, passed away quietly at her home on November 24, 2023. Voniel was born in Ephraim, Utah, on October 18, 1929. She grew up in Sanpete County, where she enjoyed close associations with her family and friends. She graduated from Snow College and then two years later from BYU in Elementary Education.

After graduation, teaching became her career and her passion. She taught school for 30 years. She spent a lot of time tutoring students after school and throughout the summer months. She received many awards and commendations through the years, but the recognition she loved most was meeting and staying in touch with the many students she had helped to succeed. Voniel always had room in her heart and her home for many.

After a few years of teaching she served a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints to the Central States Mission. There she learned to love the people and gained an unwavering testimony of the gospel of Jesus Christ. When she returned home from her mission she met another returned missionary, Neil Reid, following his military service. It took some convincing, but she finally gave in and they were married on June 22, 1956, in the Manti, Utah Temple. They enjoyed 54 years together full of love, laughter, and raising 5 great kids. In later years they had the opportunity to travel to many parts of the world. She cherished having these adventures with Neil.

After retirement she joined Neil, serving in the Logan Temple for 20 joyful years. She loved the people she associated with there. She loved being part of the Daughters of the Utah Pioneers and Retired Teachers. Most of all, she loved spending time with her family. Voniel and Neil made it a priority to bring their family together whenever they could. She wanted to be wherever her children, 20 grandchildren and 49 great grandchildren were.

She is preceded in death by Wilford and Ruth Kiesel Jensen (parents), Neil K. Reid, Sheri Reid Haymore (daughter); Kevin Astle (son-in-law), Jaxon Kevin Astle (great-grandson), Reid Neal Astle (great-grandson) and Dorothy Stoddard (sister).

She is survived by her children Karl Reid (Janeal), Kent Reid (Bena), Brent Reid (Rhonda), Lori Astle Robbins (Jay), Grant Haymore (son-in-law).
