Von Leroy Peterson

Von Leroy Peterson, 82 died 14 June 2005, at his daughter's home in Deweyville, Utah of kidney failure.
Von was born 24 September 1922, at Garfield, Idaho, a son of John Henry Peterson and Florence Mary Jeffs.
His family later moved to Mud Lake, Idaho, where he attended local schools. He spent his childhood and youth hauling hay, herding sheep, hunting rabbits and fishing with his brothers.
He married Phyllis Ethel Matson, 10 November 1943, in the Logan LDS Temple. He immediately left his new bride to serve his country in World War II. He flew 30 missions as a nose gunner on B24 airplanes.
Von farmed in Montana in the early years of his marriage, and later worked as an auto mechanic. He and Phyllis made their home in St. Anthony, Idaho, until June 2002, when they moved to Idaho Falls, Idaho. He had a lifelong love of learning and received his GED at age 70.
He was a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He served two missions with his eternal companion, a proselyting mission to Charleston, West Virginia and a family history mission to Salt Lake City, Utah.
Music was a great pleasure to Von. He sang with the Mello-Daires and Melody Men in St. Anthony until age 79. He played a bass fiddle in a dance band as a young man. His guitar, good tenor voice and fun-loving personality entertained at many campfires. He always had a joke or a good story to tell and kept his good humor and appreciative personality to the closing moments of his life.
He is survived by his seven children: Linda Glenn Young, Orlando, Florida; Jan Doolittle, Waterford, Virginia; Sherie William Goring, Deweyville, Utah; Maribeth Norman Mayfield, Bountiful, Utah; Timothy Peggy Peterson, Salt Lake City, Utah; Paulette Jerry Bratt, Idaho Falls, Idaho; Dawna Tage Hansen, Taber, Alberta, Canada. He was preceded in death by his wife, Phyllis, March 27, 2005, and one son-in-law, James Herbert Hammons.
He is survived by 41 grandchildren and 61 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by three grandchildren, Augustina and Nicholas Bratt and Blake Peterson.
Von is survived by two brothers, Golden Lois Peterson, Rigby, Idaho, and Harvey Annette Peterson, Salt Lake City, Utah He was preceded in death by three sisters, three brothers and his parents.
The family wishes to thank Gem State and Bonneville Dialysis and the home care workers in Idaho Falls and Deweyville who cared for Von.
Funeral services will take place at the Second Ward LDS Church, 247 East Fourth North, St. Anthony, Idaho, on Monday, June 20, 2005 at 12:00 Noon. Friends and family may call one hour prior to the service.
Interment will be at the St. Anthony, Idaho Cemetery.
