Virgil Sanders

Virgil Sanders finished his earthly journey Tuesday, September 11, 2007 in Logan, Utah. He was born in a tent in Shoshone, Wyoming on February 3, 1910 to Catherine Hopkin and Alex Sanders. Virgil had three brothers, Eldon Sanders deceased and Eldred Jensen of Colorado, and Marvin Jensen deceased. Virgil has lived in Washington state, Wyoming and Utah. He married Esther Torgersen on March 6, 1932 in Lovell, Wyoming. They were sealed in the Idaho Falls Temple on June 15, 1955. Virgil?s eternal sweetheart passed away after 72 years of marriage on November 19, 2002. He was the proud father of Marjorie Kelsey of Ogden; Darrell of Billings, Montana; Marilyn Albach of Provo; Howard of Colorado; Virgil Sanders, Jr., deceased; David deceased; and Richard of Amalga. He was blessed with 29 grandchildren, 36 great grandchildren and 6 great-great grandchildren. Virgil was a very hard worker and it showed in everything he did. He worked at many different jobs as a young man and was employed by Marathon Oil until his retirement in 1972. He and Esther moved to Amalga and lived there until he went into the Logan Nursing and Rehabilitation in 2002. He loved the outdoors; fishing and hunting was a pleasure to him. One of his favorite hobbies was gardening and doing yard work. He won many awards for his yard. He took great pride in his yard and it was hard for him not to to be able to work on it anymore as his health faded. He was a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and loved to read the scriptures every day. He served in many callings in the church. He and Esther served a mission in the San Jose, California mission from 1979 to 1981. He was a temple worker and enjoyed all the wonderful people that he was surrounded by there. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; his two sons; David and Jr.; a grandson, Bruce Albach; a great grandson, Virgil Albach; a son-in-law, Lawrence S. Kelsey; a great granddaughter, Sabrina Kelsey; and a granddaughter, Karen Sanders. The family would like to thank all those who gave service and care to Virgil while he was at the Logan Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, September 15, 2007 in the Benson Stake Center, 6521 North 2400 West, Amalga, Utah at 11:00 a.m. Family and friends may attend a viewing from 9:30 to 10:30 Saturday morning at the church prior to the funeral services. Burial will be at the Clarkston City Cemetery. Condolences may be extended to the family online at www.nelsonfuneralhome.com .
