VerNon L. Harris

Preston, Idaho. VerNon L. Harris, 72, revered husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, passed away at his home on Sunday, July 2, 2006. VerNon was born May 2, 1934 in Tremonton, Utah to Thomas Orlando and Claudine Stanfill Harris. He was raised in the Bear River Valley and graduated from Bear River High School in 1952. He attended Utah State University. VerNon married Joyce Christensen in the Logan LDS Temple on July 17, 1953. They lived in Tremonton until 1979 when they moved to Idaho to be closer to their farm in Oxford. They are the parents of five children: Jeanette Jay Gill of Tremonton; Kelly Julie Harris of Tremonton; Sheryl Bill Norr of Deweyville; Christopher Mary Harris of Orem; and Mike McNeely of Tremonton. Joyce and VerNon have 20 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. VerNon was a High Priest in the Whitney 2nd Ward, and served faithfully in many church callings throughout his life. He loved to read and had remarkable retention. He was a savvy and respected businessman, and an exceptional farmer. VerNon custom cut grain for 53 years. He was known for his great integrity and work ethic. He was very industrious and loved to build and create. VerNon was an extraordinary craftsman, and built four family homes with his beloved wife, Joyce where he showcased his skills in welding, plumbing, and carpentry. He was also a great outdoorsman. VerNon enjoyed boating, snowmobiling, camping, fishing, and four-wheeling with his family. He is survived by his wife and children, sister, Belva Jean Bowcutt, mother-in-law, Evelyn R. Christensen, and sister-in-law, Connie Keith Simmers. He was preceded in death by his parents, his older sister, Colleen, and father-in-law, R.A. Christensen Jr. VerNon is dearly loved and admired, and will be greatly missed. Funeral services will be held Thursday, July 6, 2006 at 12:00 noon at Tremonton Stake Center, 660 North 300 East, Tremonton. Friends and family may call Wednesday from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at Rogers and Taylor Funeral Home, 111 North 100 East, Tremonton and Thursday from 9:30-11:30 a.m. at the church. Interment at Tremonton Riverview Cemetery
