Tremonton ? Vernell Alice Petersen Morrison, 95, died Monday, January 22, 2007 in Tremonton of natural causes.
She was born April 12, 1911 in Bear River City, Utah the eldest of ten children to Erastus Mariner and Alice Hansen Petersen.
She married Rodney W. Morrison June 20, 1941 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. He passed away April 1, 1966.
She was reared and educated in Bear River City and graduated from Bear River High School in 1921. She received her teaching certificate from the University of Utah and also attended Utah State University. She taught elementary school in Snowville, Tremonton, Bear River City, Garland, Bothwell, Perry and Fielding.
She was a member of Tremonton First Ward, having served in many Ward and Stake positions and the Cub Scout program of the Golden Spike Scout District. She served an 18 month mission in 1980-81 to the Florida Tallahassee Mission.
She was a member of the Tremonton Women?s Civic League, having been awarded ?Clubwomen of the Year? in 1975 and ?Mother of the Year? in 1972. She was a charter member of the Simada Study Club and a member of the Literary Guild from 1942 to 1986. She served as a member of the North Box Elder D.U.P. Board and was a member of the Midland Camp of the Daughters of the Utah Pioneers.
Surviving are four sons, David Eloise Morrison, Hurricane, Utah, J. Richard Morrison, Springfield, Missouri, Don Michelle Morrison, Fircrest, Washington and Douglas Linda Morrison, Puyallup, Washington, 20 grandchildren, 21 great grandchildren, one brother, Ralph L. Petersen, East Hampton, New York, four sisters, Mrs. Mack Beth Christensen, Bear River City, Mrs. Clara Goodliffe, Brigham City, Mrs. Audry Hess, West Haven and Mrs. LaMar Ann Bourne, Salt Lake City. She was preceded in death by her husband, one brother and four sisters.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, January 27, 2007 at 11:00 a.m. at Tremonton First Ward, 166 North Tremont St., Tremonton. Family and friends may call from 6:00-7:30 p.m. Friday, January 26, 2007 at Rogers and Taylor Funeral Home, 111 North 100 East, Tremonton and Saturday from 9:30-10:30 a.m. at the church. Interment at Tremonton Riverview Cemetery.
Family suggests donations be made to Tremonton Senior Center or Tremonton City Library.
