Vern Russell James

July 12, 1933 — April 5, 2013

Vern Russell James of North Logan passed away unexpectedly on April 5, 2013, in St George. He was born July 12, 1933, in Tooele, UT, to Roy and Elsie James. He graduated from Tooele HS in 1951. Vern served in the Army from 1953 to 1955 and was stationed at Fort Bragg, NC. He graduated from USU in 1958 and went to work at Marquardt in Ogden where he met Bonnie and they married in 1960. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Logan LDS temple. Vern worked 27 years as an Accountant at USU, retiring in 1998. Vern was an avid fisherman with a wry sense of humor, a talented woodworker and craftsman, and most important, he was a good man. He was preceeded in death by his parents and older brother, Keith. He is survived by his wife, Bonnie James and his sister LaVelle Eastman of SLC as well as his three children; Mark James Mendham, NJ, Kent James Palm Springs, CA and Dionne Stirland North Logan, UT. He is also survived by 8 grandchildren and 1 great-grandchild. Funeral services will be held Thursday April 11 at noon at the North Logan 9th ward chapel 1650 E 2600 N, North Logan. A viewing will be held from 6-8pm Wed night at Nelson Funeral Home 162 E 400 N in Logan and 10:30-11:30am at the church prior to services on Thursday. Interment will be in the North Logan City Cemetery.
