Fielding- Loving husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather, Verl Thomas Udy, 83, of Fielding, died Friday, September 19, 2003, at the Bear River Valley Care Center in Tremonton. Verl was born on July 5, 1920, in Riverside, Utah, the son of Edmund and Mary Buxton Udy. He married Edith Owens on May 31, 1940, in Malad, Idaho, and their marriage was later solemnized in the Logan LDS Temple. Verl received his education in Riverside and graduated from Bear River High School. He worked for Potter Brothers and then served in the U.S. Army during WW II. He returned home to work for U & I Sugar and farm. Later he worked for UDOT and Box Elder County. Verl loved to trade and break horses. His passion for horses led him to become an original member of the Plymouth Roping Club. He was a member of the Box Elder County Sheriff's Posse, served as Chief, and later became an Honorary Member. He was an active member of the Bear River Cutter Association and served as President. He was honored as Outstanding Contributor by the World Championship Cutter and Chariot Racing Association. Verl is survived by his wife, his children - Verlene Lyle Watson, of Tremonton, Owen Linda Kay Udy of Tremonton, Boyd Kris Udy of Promontory, Jess Georgia Udy of Tremonton, and Kayla John McClellan, of Fielding; two brothers - Oleen Udy of Ogden, and Ray Louise Udy of Riverside; one sister - Cleo "Pete" Forsberg of Riverside; 19 grandchildren, and 15 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, six sisters, and one granddaughter "Patti". Funeral Service will be Tuesday, September 23, 2003, at the Fielding LDS Stake Center, 4375 West 15600 North. Friends may call on Monday, September 22, from 6-8 p.m. at Rogers & Taylor Funeral Home, 111 North 100 East, Tremonton and Tuesday from 9:30 -10:30 at the church. Interment will be in the Fielding Cemetery.
