Verl Loosle Buttars

Verl Loosle Buttars, 86, passed away Wednesday, December 19, 2007 at Legacy House Assisted Living in Logan of causes incident to prostate cancer. He was born in Clarkston, Utah on November 7, 1921 to David Alexander Buttars and Rosetta Babait Loosle. He spent his growing years on the family farm in Clarkston, attended Clarkston School and graduated from North Cache High School. He married Gwelda Arleen Jardine May 6, 1949. She passed away October 27, 1960. He then married Ruth Henrie December 9, 1961 and she passed away January 22, 1999. He married Elizabeth ?Betty? Maughan October 6, 2001. Verl retired from Thiokol Chemical Corporation in January of 1987 after 26½ years. He also worked 12 campaigns at the U & I Sugar Factory in Garland and served as the Water Master for several years in Clarkston. Among his interests and hobbies, he enjoyed dancing, singing, and farming. He loved to visit with people and in his later years enjoyed traveling. He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints holding many callings over the years. He has served as the Elders Quorum President, High Priest Group Leader, and worked in the Logan Temple. He was a faithful and dedicated Home Teacher. With his wife Ruth, they served a mission to Nauvoo from 1987-1988. He also participated in the Martin Harris Pageant as Joseph Knight, Sr. for 20 years. He is survived by his wife, Betty of Mendon; his children: Jaydene Kendon Godfrey, Clarkston; James Callan Diana Buttars, Clarkston; Jeaniel Kim Sauer, Huntsville; Lora Lee Clair Peterson, Logan; Robert Michael Nish, Magna; Pamela Ruth Dennis Rhodes, Garland; Tawna Barry Fonnesbeck, Mendon; Debora Ray Speth, Phoenix; 34 grandchildren and 76 great grandchildren. He is also survived by a brother, Lee Winn Theo Buttars, Centerville and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wives, Gwelda and Ruth; 10 brothers and sisters; and one grandson. Funeral services will be held at 12:00 noon Saturday, December 22, 2007 at the Clarkston Ward Chapel, 25 East 100 South, Clarkston. Friends and family may call Friday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. at Nelson Funeral Home, 162 East 400 North, Logan and Saturday at the church from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. prior to services.
