Val passed away peaceful at his home on February 1, 2018 at the age of 93 surrounded by family.
He was born on October 25, 1924 in Del Rio, Texas to Arturo and Virginia Castillo-the third child in a family of 13 children.
He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II and the Korean War.
He married the love of his life, Noemi Aguirre, on December 29, 1946, in Del Rio, Texas. They were later sealed in the Mesa Arizona Temple. They are the parents of 7 children.
As a convert to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, his love for the Lord showed as he diligently served in his callings as branch president of the Smithfield Canyon Branch, a sealer in the Logan Utah Temple, a patriarch of the Smithfield Utah North Stake, and many others.
He studied at Utah State University in the College of Engineering. He worked for Thomson Electric for 32 years. He worked at Ritewood Egg Farm in Franklin, Idaho for 9 years.
Val is survived by his wife Noemi, and their 7 children: Val Castillo, JoElda (Jeff) Saxton, Enedelia Jensen, Nilda Edwards, Edna (Brad) Clark, Diana (Tracy) Carpenter, LuCinda Cole (Daniel Marriott), 22 grandchildren, 58 great-grandchildren, 8 great-great-grandchildren, 4 brothers and 2 sisters.
He was preceded in death by his parents, 2 sisters, 2 brothers, daughter-in-law Vilma Castillo, granddaughters Amber Edwards and Spenser Cole, & grandsons Terry James (TJ) Fluckiger and Michael David Fluckiger.

Funeral services will be held at 12:00 noon on Monday, February 5, 2018 at the Smithfield North Stake Center 155 West 400 North Smithfield, Utah, preceded by a viewing at 10:30 am.
Friends may call at Nelson Funeral Home Smithfield, Utah 85 South Main on Sunday evening from 6:00 to 8:00 pm.
