Brigham, UT - Tommy Craig Hawes, 76, joined those who awaited him beyond this earthly home on Tuesday, March 24, 2007. On November 5, 1930 he was born to Thomas Edward Hawes and Lucille Marshall Hawes in Ogden, Utah. Thomas would later marry Trellis Hawes, Tommy?s stepmother.
Tommy was raised in Plymouth, Utah. In 1947, at the age of 17, he enlisted in the navy. Later, he would enlist in the army. Tommy served in the military for 19 years and fought in both the Korean and Vietnam conflicts. During his enlistment he met and married Lisa Hauck, of Ludwig Hafen, Germany, in Frankfurt, Germany. Tommy served as a radio TT operator and became an expert with an M-14 rifle. He was awarded the National Defense Medal, Korean Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, and the United Nations Service Medal for various deeds rendered in service to his country.
After leaving the military Tommy worked at the Sugar Factory in Garland, Utah, Thiokol, and as an electrician for Nucor. He also worked for a time as an overland truck driver.
Tommy lived in many places throughout the world as a result of his service in the military. He lived in; Germany, Washington, Panama, Plymouth, Tremonton, Elko, Brigham City, and Vernal. From these places he brought many stories that he enjoyed sharing with his 19 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren. Other than spending time with the family he cherished and loved, Tommy also enjoyed fishing, hunting, and an occasional round of golf.
Tommy is survived by his wife Lisa Hawes, along with his brothers and sisters; Ronnie Kim Hawes of Tremonton, Boyd Lyla Hawes of Brigham City, Lucille Gross of Tremonton, Uldene Hubbard of Kaysville, and Karen David Wallace of Sunset. As well as his children; Debbie Brent Holmquist of Murray, Brenda Chuck Creamer of Liberty, Tammy Vincent Christensen of Vernal, and Craig Lori Hawes of Brigham City. He is preceded in death by his son Darrell, his parents, and a grandson named Kenny. Funeral services will be held Saturday, April 28, 2007 at 2:00 p.m. at Rogers and Taylor Funeral Home, 111 North 100 East, Tremonton. Friends and family may call Friday, April 27, 2007 from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at Rogers and Taylor Funeral Home and Saturday from 1:00 ? 1:45 p.m. prior to the services. Interment at Plymouth Cemetery.
