OBITUARY OF
LOGAN - Thomas Leland Farner, 76, beloved husband, brother, father, grandfather, great grandfather, and cherished friend, ?returned home? on Sunday, June 27, 2004. He peacefully finished his earthly life after a courageous fight with pancreatic cancer. He lived the life he loved. He was born December 15, 1927 in Garden City, Utah, the third child of John Charles Farner, Jr. and Flora Loretta Cottle. He moved to Ogden, Utah at age 13. Tom graduated from Ogden High School in 1945. He served in World War II in the Navy and later in the Navy Reserve. He was married to Beverly Jean Purser in the Logan Temple on July 28, 1947. Tom graduated from the Ogden Business College in accounting and trained in his chosen profession at Superior Beauty School. He served as Vice President of the Utah State Hair Dresser?s Association for 13 years and as a member of the Utah Hair Fashion Committee for 14 years, serving as President for one year. He has been a hair stylist for 53 years, owning several beauty salons in Logan, Ogden and Idaho. He spent his life, ?making women more beautiful?. He had a special talent and was a friend to all of his devoted customers at Exquisite Hair Fashions in Logan. He has been a member of Toastmaster?s International and a member of the American Legion, USU Post 12. Tom enjoyed people and was known for his speaking ability and dedication in all he did. Tom was blessed with many years of service in the LDS Church. He served in leadership positions including finance clerk, home teacher and worked with youth in scouting, young mens and Sunday School. He was a counselor in two Bishoprics, served on two High Councils and was a Ward and Stake Executive Secretary. He most recently enjoyed serving in the Logan Temple. He was dedicated, hard working, and selfless. His hobbies included square dancing, horse shoes, golf, water skiing, oil painting and deer hunting. He liked to travel, especially to Hawaii, the Caribbean and Denmark.
He loved his family and time together with them was most important. Together they built his dream cabin at Bear Lake. He loved to host friends and family there. He said, ?My greatest treasure is my kids.? He is survived by his wife, Beverly Jean of 56 years, children, Jeanie Roland Squire, West Valley; Scott Julie Erickson Farner, Hyde Park; Julie Ron Salisbury, Farmington; grandchildren: Shane Somer, Trevor Alisha, Chandler Switzerland Geneva Mission, Landon, Jason, Brittney Scott, Heather Todd, Michael, Nikayla, Trisha, Tessa; great grandchildren: Dallin, Kell, Frankie-Lee, Breanin, Hyland, Savannah. Also surviving are a sister, Flora Joe White, and a brother Carl Lorna Farner. He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers; Steven, Paul. Tom?s family wishes to give a special thanks to Dr. Glenn Mortensen, Dr. Vikram Garg, Dr. Ali Ben-Jacob and the nurses at the Cancer Clinic. Funeral services will be held Thursday, July 1, 2004 at 11:00 a.m. in the Northwood Ward Chapel, 125 East 500 North, Logan with Bishop Mark Porter conducting. Friends may call at Nelson Funeral Home, 162 East 400 North, Logan on Wednesday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. and at the church on Thursday from 9 to 10:30 a.m. Burial will be in the Garden City Cemetery with military graveside rites by the American Legion.
