Our dear brother, father, grandfather, and friend passed away Thursday, November 30, 2023 surrounded by his family at his home in Logan. Tom was the 3rd child of David W. England and Helen Robbins England; born on April 21, 1940 in Logan. His father described him as a “happy little fellow”. He loved animals, especially farm animals and enjoyed having a dog and riding their horse known as ‘Patches’. He attended many county fairs and was proud of the ribbons he received for showing his many varieties of chickens.
With the help of the Bonneville School at the Whittier Elementary, Tom continued his schooling at Logan Jr. High and graduated from Logan High. Summers were enjoyed when the extended families would gather and spend time on the shore of Bear Lake at the “Robbins Nest” near Laketown. He married Marla Sparrow of Smithfield in 1969 and raised their son, Shane Royal England, in the house next door to where Tom grew up. Tom found satisfaction being employed in custodial work for the Logan Deseret Industries and Shopko, where he made many friends. He took a special interest in trains – both locomotives and model trains. He attended meetings and enjoyed the comradery in the train clubs. With family help, he built a large train layout in his basement to enjoy. For many years, Tom and Marla would fill their days with the activities and friendships at the Bear River Mental Health Center on 10th North where Callie Hoth was exceptionally helpful to them. Being able to make friends easily, Tom served as a greeter at church. He attended the Logan Temple and showed his love of the Savior in many simple ways.
Tom has nine grandchildren and four great-grandchildren, who have blessed his life. He was preceded in death by his parents and survived by his wife Marla, son Shane and his wife Rachel and children, a brother David ‘DJ’ England, and two sisters Nancy Lundquist and Julia Thomson.
The family acknowledges and thanks those who cared for Tom in his later years at Rocky Mountain Care and The Sunshine Terrace. Primrose Home Care and Hospice attended to his final hours.
A viewing will be held on Friday, December 8th at 11:30-12:30 pm at the Central Park Ward, 94 West 600 South in Logan, with the funeral following at 1:00 pm. Interment will be in the Logan City Cemetery.
