Theon Stephen Nielsen

February 9, 1905 — March 22, 2010

On March 22, 2010 with his son by his side, Theon S. Nielsen passed from this life to be met by his eternal companion and his son, as well as many other members of his family. Theon was born February 9, 1905 in Hyde Park, Utah to Thomas and Lettie Peterson Nielsen. He had 4 brothers: Floyd Libby; Clayton Elizabeth; Rudger Drew; and Vincent Lilly; all deceased. He had 5 sisters: Venice, deceased as a youth; Vivetta Sam Merrill; Zelpha Jack Reed; Teresa; and his only living sister, Lorna Peter Rasmussen. Theon attended Cache County Schools, graduating from North Cache High School, and then went on to Utah State Agricultural College USU. He met Cleah Choate at a Sugar Ball, a dance held after the harvest campaign; they dated for a short time and then married in the Logan LDS Temple on March 28, 1928. To this union 3 children were born: Lyman R, deceased Phyllis, Albuquerque, NM; Duveen Ronald Gunter, Kemmerer, WY; and Dale Marilyn, Smithfield, UT; 8 grandchildren; 26 great grandchildren and still adding to his great-great grandchildren count. Theon was a master mechanic/electrician, working for Amalgamated Sugar Company in Lewiston; he retired in 1970. During that time, he did not miss one single days work because of illness. He was a devoted and trustworthy employee of the sugar company. He made many friends and acquaintances there, but as expected, he has out lived them all. Theon was a fixer-up type of guy who could and did help everyone in need for whatever the need would be. He loved to be of service to his neighbors and friends. As a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter -Day Saints, his love for his Savior was exemplified in everything that he did. He had a strong testimony and it showed. He served his Heavenly Father by the many callings he had in the church: a scout master, a young mens leader, a high priest group leader, a Sunday school teacher, counselor in a bishopric, bishop, and patriarch; and a temple officiator for 12 years, as well as a home teacher for 89 years. He also served his community as recorder/treasurer, and the first building inspector in Lewiston; all of these he did with a smile. Theon is survived by his 2 living children: 8 grandchildren; 26 great grandchildren; and many great-great grandchildren;. A sister also survives him. He was preceded in death by his wife, parents, a son, a son-in-law, and a granddaughter-in-law. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, March 27, 2010 in the Lewiston Second Ward Chapel, 10 South 1600 West, Lewiston, Utah. A viewing will be held at the church from 11:00 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. prior to services. Interment will be in the Lewiston City Cemetery. Condolences may be extended to the family online at www.nelsonfuneralhome.com . If you would rather make a donation, Theon?s favorite charities were The Missionary Fund and the Perpetual Education Fund of the LDS Church. Special thanks are give to the care givers at Logan Regional Hospital, Logan Nursing and Rehabilitation, and Alpine Hospice for their care given to him during his short illness. A very special thank-you to Minnie and Kimber Hall and their family for their love, concern, and care.
