Tena Marie Ufkes LaBonde, a 20 yr. resident of Logan, UT died on Tuesday, February 7, 2008, due to age related causes. She was born in Basco Illinois to Gerhard Ufkes and Anna Huls. She was fourth of nine children and preceded in death by Margaret Janssen, Carl Ufkes, Hilda Eilers, Rev. William Ufkes, Elenora Arns, and Rosetta Ufkes. Albertus Ufkes of Golden, Ill. and Marvin Ufkes of Quincy, Ill. are her surviving siblings. Ernst George LaBonde, her loving husband of 48 years, died December 14, 1988. They were married Dec. 22, 1940 in Golden, Ill. She was the conscientious and caring mother of Sharon Ann Gilger of Layton, UT, and Deborah Sue Gittins of Smithfield, UT. She has 9 grandchildren and 11, almost 13, great grandchildren. She served her church and community for many years. She was president of the WMS, was on the finance committee, and taught Sunday School for 17 years. She also volunteered in a nursing home for 15 years and was a Girl Scout leader. Many neighbors lived more easily because of her help and concern. She was a very hard worker and found it difficult to slow to her body's capacity for work in her later years. Her quick wit and caring ways will be missed by all who knew her. There will be a viewing on Monday, February 11, 2008 at Nelson Funeral Home, 162 East 400 North, Logan from 6:00-7:00 p.m. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, February 12, 2008 at 11:00 a.m. in the Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, 581 North 700 East, Logan. Interment will be in the Smithfield City Cemetery. Memorials in Tena's remembrance can be given to the building fund of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in Logan, UT.
