Sue Annette Kirk Rozum, aged 78, died August 14, 2008 at home. She died just 6 weeks after her husband, John Joseph Rozum died. Sue and John had celebrated their 55th wedding anniversary one week prior to his death. She is survived by her 3 children, their spouses, 5 grand-children and 4 dogs that she especially loved. Her survivors are Jennifer Sue Rozum, MD and her husband Gregory M. Hawkins with their Akitas Miko and Katana residing in Las Vegas, NV; John Andrew Rozum, JD and his wife Maria Diego Rozum and their children Angela Maria, Joseph David and Andrew Nikolaus residing in Visalia, CA; and Elizabeth Anne Rozum, MLS and her husband Richard Walcott and their children Jordan Christopher and William Jaspar with their dogs Bandit and Patrick residing in North Logan, UT. She is also survived by one brother, Ray Kirk of Tuscon, AZ and was preceded in death by siblings John and James. Sue was a lifelong educator, retiring as principal of Del Vista School in Delano, CA in 1990. Previously, she had been a resource teacher and had taught middle school, high school, special education and gifted children holding multiple teaching credentials. She was named Teacher of the Year numerous times and was awarded life membership in the PTA. She had gone back to school in the late 1980's while still working full-time and had earned her Master's in Education from Fresno State University, graduating with honors and being elected to the Honor Society. Sue earned her BA from Southwestern College in Winfield, KS in 1950 and graduated from Prescott High School in Prescott, AZ in 1946 at the age of 16. She was born in Prescott, AZ, lived for 30 years in Earlimart, CA and moved to North Logan, UT in 2001. In addition to her commitment to education, Sue was active in the community and was the first female President of the Kiwanis chapter in Delano, CA. Sue was extremely intelligent, loved to read and to play word games, and passed on to her children a love of learning and playing games. She also enjoyed gardening; cooking and taking care of the many cats and dogs she had throughout her life. The family would like to thank physicians, Robert Nash, MD of the Intermountain Budge Clinic; Ali Ben-Jacob, MD of the Cache Valley Cancer and Treatment Center; and their staff who provided excellent, compassionate and personalized care to Sue and also to John Rozum. The family also wants to acknowledge the help and support of the members of the North Logan 14th Ward. In addition, we thank Brad and Sarah McDaniel for living with and helping to care for Sue and John. A final special thanks goes to Estela Leiva and her son Cris who took care of Sue and of John 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, for the last months of their lives, enabling them to stay at home to die peacefully in their familiar surroundings.
