Smithfield, UT: Steven Clark Denton, age 60, passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by his loving family on December 14, 2011, of causes incident to cancer. He was born July 6, 1951, to Leon and Marion Denton at Walter Reed Army Hospital in Washington, D.C. He met Cathy, his first and only love, when they were seniors in high school. After graduating from Sky View High School in 1969, they were married the following year on August 14, 1970, in the Logan Temple. Steve worked as a meat cutter for Albertson's until his retirement in October 2005. He then became Cathy's devoted "house husband" and did literally every household thing, except the cooking. That he left to the expert! The mountains were where he found peace and solitude, and he loved nothing better than riding his 4-wheeler through the trails. He passed this love of nature on to his sons, and he enjoyed many outings hunting, fishing, hiking, and playing golf with his family and friends; but the highlight of each year was the family camping trip, where lifelong memories were made. Time spent with Steve was something of an iconic event. If he wasn't describing in every delicious detail the latest gourmet dish Cathy had made for him, he was boasting about his delightful and extraordinarily bright grandchildren. Steve could always rouse the room with the latest political plights of the day and was never short on suggestions for solving them, until all were convinced he was right! Steve had an old-fashioned sense of honor and integrity. His word was his bond, and he always gave credit where credit was due, never throwing away a well-deserved compliment or sincere expression of gratitude. We will not soon forget his teasing ways, his special names of endearment, or his impish smile he reserved for those he genuinely trusted and loved. Steve has truly left a unique footprint on our hearts, which we will treasure forever. Steve is survived by his wife, Cathy, his four children, Jeff Jenni Denton, Ryan Josie Denton, and Tim Gina Denton, all of Franklin, Idaho, and Lauren Rory Hollingshead of Logan, and 11 grandchildren. He is also survived by his parents, Leon and Marion Denton, Smithfield, one brother, Gary Roxie Denton, Lewiston, and four sisters, Audrie Gordon Goldsberry, Brigham City, Donna Chris Conner, Smithfield, Helen Jeff Jeppsen, Smithfield, and Beverly Ken, deceased Volkman, Smithfield. Family and friends viewing on Monday, December 19, 2011 from 10:30-11:45 a.m. at the Smithfield 11th Ward Chapel, 79 East 200 South with a short service at 12 Noon. Interment will be in the Smithfield Cemetery.
