Sterling Perry Petersen

Sterling Perry Petersen, age 55, died April 26, 2002 in Kearns, Utah. He was born October 23, 1947 in Tremonton, Utah, to the late Scott Allen Petersen and Ellenor May Perry. Sterling lived in Penrose, Utah, for the first seven years of his life; then the family moved to Tremonton; where he attended elementary school and graduated from Bear River High School. Sterling had an outgoing personality and was loved by everyone who knew him. At the age of 19, he was drafted and served 19 months in the Vietnam War, as a helicopter crew chief. While there, he was awarded The National Defense Medal; the air medal with 22 oak leaf clusters and the Purple Heart. Sterling flew 25 aerial missions over hostile territory. The air medal was awarded for meritorious achievement while participating in aerial flights. He was honorably discharged July 1969. He was currently working at Hunter High School at the time of his death. Sterling is survived by one brother; Scott Alan Petersen Jr., Brigham City; One sister Mary Eileen Petersen Morrison, Blackfoot, ID; and many loving nephews, nieces, and cousins. He was preceded in Death by his father; Scott Allen Petersen Sr. Friends and family may call Monday, April 29th, from 6-8 p.m. and Tuesday from 9:30-10:40 a.m. at Rogers and Taylor Funeral Home, 111 North 100 East, Tremonton. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, April 30, 2002 at 11:00 a.m. at the Tremonton 1st Ward Chapel with Bishop Lyle Vance officiating. Internment will be in the Tremonton Riverview Cememtery. Military Honors will be performed by V.F.W. Post 1695.
