Spencer Leslie Hancey passed away peacefully in the Logan Regional Hospital, on May 29, 2023, at the age of 95. He was born to Leslie Peter and Gladys Lamb Hancey on February 24, 1928, in Hyde Park Utah.

Spencer attended Hyde Park Elementary School, 9th grade at Smithfield Junior High School, North Cache High School and Utah State University. He married Nellene Fabricius in the Idaho Falls Temple on November 18, 1949.

During WWII, in the summers of 1944-45, Spencer worked at the Ogden Defense Depot. After High School graduation, he worked with his father as a carpenter, building homes in Cache Valley. In 1950, he began working in the floor covering trade and in the spring of 1954 began a partnership in R & S Floor Coverings. In 1977, after selling his share of the business, Spencer joined the staff at Utah State University in the Equipment Inventory Office, later becoming coordinator of all the university equipment. This job he thoroughly enjoyed, working until his retirement in June 1996.

Spencer had a great love of reading, traveling, and enjoying the beauties of nature. One of his favorite trips was to the Holy Land where he enjoyed walking where the Savior walked. He was always willing to help his children with projects in their homes. Active in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, his life was filled with many callings. During his early years, Spencer and Nellene enjoyed dancing, both ballroom and square dance. Spencer was a charter member of the Cache County Jeep Patrol, later known as the Cache County Search and Rescue, serving as a member for 35 years. Spencer and Nellene served an 18-month mission at the Family History Library in Salt Lake City. Their service was on the International Floor where they had many wonderful experiences and served with great missionaries and staff members.

Spencer is survived by his six children: Douglas (Judy) Hancey, Lucille (Kelly) Hadfield, Ruth (Evan) Boshell, Annette (David) Roberts, David (Amie) Hancey , and Diane (Cal) Hugie. He is also survived by 20 grandchildren and 53 great grandchildren; sister-in-laws Erma Jean Hancey, Yvonne F. Hyer, and Shirley Fabricius, as well numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife Nellene, his parents, brother Harold Hancey, brother-in-law Rodney K. Fabricius and one great granddaughter, Paige Hancey, and one great grandson Corban Bindrup.
