Sidney Sheffield Godfrey

June 3, 1906 — June 6, 2004

Just three days after celebrating his 98th birthday, Sidney Sheffield Godfrey passed away on the 6th day of June, 2004, in Smithfield, at the home of his daughter, Marie. The third of eight children born to Thomas Henry and Lucy Ellen Godfrey, Sidney was born on the third day of June, 1906. His entire life was spent in Clarkston, Utah, where he witnessed the transformation from his forefathers? antiquated ways to our modern lifestyle. He was grateful to have spent his life in the loving embrace of that community and its people. One June 22, 1927, he married his eternal sweetheart, Margaret Buttars Jardine, in the Logan LDS Temple. Margaret passed away on June 8, 1997, two weeks before their 70th wedding anniversary. They were the parents of three daughters: Oreta, Barbara, and Marie. Sid?s life occupations were farming and hauling milk for Cache Valley Dairy, whose routes he traveled for over 40 years. He was an avid hunter and fisherman, who much enjoyed spending his time in the outdoors. In days past, he was a fixture at Richard V. Hansen Ballpark, where he would always be found cheering on the Smithfield Blue Sox. In addition to his devotion to the Blue Sox, he was also a die-hard fan of the Utah Jazz. Sid is survived by two daughters: Oreta Tarbet and Marie Wes Tarbet, both of Smithfield and a son-in-law, Ralph Ann Udy of Corrine. Brothers: Evan Kay Godfrey of Clarkston and LaVar Lona Mae Godfrey of Kaysville; one sister, Corinne Heggie of Clarkston; brother-in-law, Ira Margaret Jardine of Clarkston and sister-in-law, Eva Lou Bowen of Hyrum. He is also survived by four grandchildren, 24 great grandchildren and 12 great-great grandchildren. He was preceded in by his wife, Margaret; daughter, Barbara; his parents, two brothers, two sisters, a son-in-law, two grandchildren and a great grandson. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, June 9 at 12:00 noon in the Clarkston 1st Ward Chapel, 25 East 100 South with Bishop Kendon Godfrey conducting. A viewing will be held at the church from 10:00 to 11:30 a.m prior to services. Burial will be at the Clarkston Cemetery. Services are under the direction of Nelson Funeral Home.
