Shirley Mae Tree Bennett, 85, passed away peacefully at the Sunshine Terrace in Logan Utah with her loving husband and children by her side. Shirley was born May 2, 1932 to Wilford and Margaret Tree at their home in Syracuse, Utah. Shirley grew up on the family farm working in the fields alongside her father, sisters and brother. She graduated from Davis High School in 1950. After high school, Shirley attended and graduated from beautician school in Ogden Utah. She was working as a beautician at J. C. Penney's when her sweetheart, Jay Claude Bennett of Syracuse, Utah, returned from his mission. They were married December 13th, 1951 in the Salt Lake Temple.
Shirley worked a variety of jobs throughout her life including 22 years at the Ogden Credit Bureau. Her favorite of all her jobs though was being a mother and homemaker. She also loved her many church callings, especially working with the children in Primary.
Shirley lived her life full of grace, determination, and most importantly love for her family, her friends and her many church callings. Shirley's greatest joy in life was providing service to others. When she made a new friend it was for life. Even when stricken with a debilitating disease, Shirley's primary concern was the welfare of others. When she moved into the Sunshine Terrace it was not uncommon for Shirley to drive her Jazzy from room to room to make sure her friends were doing fine and to find out what she could do to help them. Just days before she passed Shirley wanted to make sure that those she was leaving behind were going to be taken care of.
Shirley is survived by her loving husband Jay Bennett and children Steve (Ann Marie) Bennett, Jan (Joe) Preslar, Susanne (Dick) Hansen, 14 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren. Brother Rodney Tree, Sisters Carol (Joe) Tite, Barbara (Ben) Hair, Kathryn (Ray) Wood, Gayle Nath.
