Sherley Hale Zeller

December 3, 1925 — March 21, 2011

Sherley Hale Zeller of Hyrum, Utah passed away peacefully in her home surrounded by family members on March 21, 2011. Sherley was born December 3, 1925 in Palmetto, Florida to Henry and Olive Hale. She grew up in Massachusetts a member of the Congregational Church. At the age of 12 she taught Sunday School for the church's children. When she graduated from High School her minister suggested that she continue her education and she submitted her application to universities throughout the United States. Because of the influx of GI's returning from war her applications were all denied, except one from Brigham Young University and another from Georgia College for Women. The tuition at BYU was much more affordable, so with warnings from friends and family to avoid being caught by the Mormons she headed West. While attending BYU many of the religious questions Sherley had struggled with throughout her life were answered. While earning her degree in Psychology Sherley worked as a teaching assistant and in one of her classes she met her husband and eternal companion Ervan Joseph Zeller. They were married in the Salt Lake Temple February 2, 1951. Sherley served faithfully in many callings and capacities in the church throughout her life. Her true love though was to bare her testimony of the power of prayer. She often said that the most important reason that we keep the commandments is so that we can "feel free to call upon God when we need him desperately. Many are the muddy mountainous road we have survived when one miscalculation would have sent us over the edge down hundreds of feet. We have been stopped from certain accident when another car was directly in our path on the icy roads of life." Time and time again the faith from Sherley's prayers touched, helped and healed her family and friends.
Sherley is preceded in death by her husband Ervan Joseph Zeller. She is survived by James Hale Zeller Donnie Seattle, Washington, Robert Ervan Zeller Terri Logan, Utah, David Holbrook Zeller Merry Lu Hyrum, Utah, John Richard Zeller Maryanne Duxbury, Massachusetts, Raymond Edward Zeller LuAnn Las Vegas, Nevada, Sheryl Ann Rhode Bret Tremonton, Utah, Carol Marie Schraeder Lonnie St. George, Utah, 35 grandchildren and 30 great-grand children.

A viewing will be held from 6 to 8 PM Sunday, March 27, at the Nelson Funeral Home, 162 East 400 North, Logan.
