Sheldon Laub Cannon

July 9, 1923 — May 25, 2005

Tremonton - Sheldon Laub Cannon, born July 9, 1923, to Lewis Ray and Jennie Laub Cannon, passed away at home Wednesday, May 25, 2005, with his devoted wife Darlene by his side. Sheldon was born in Stone, Idaho, and was the thirteenth of fourteen siblings. The family later moved to Fielding, Utah, where Sheldon was raised and at age 16, graduated from Bear River High School.
Sheldon served in the United States Navy during WWII, as an Aviator Machinist 2nd Mate and a tail-gunner, until 1946, when he was honorably discharged. Sheldon married "the love of his life", Beverly Sandall on March 12, 1947. They were later sealed for eternity in the Logan Temple on January 19, 1973. After the passing of his wife Beverly, on March 1, 2003, Sheldon found happiness and companionship again, with a life long friend, Darlene Robbins Wise. They were married on June 21, 2003. Darlene has been a dear, sweet companion to Sheldon, and a great mom to her new extended family, who thank her for the love and kindness she gave. Sheldon was a proud father of his two sons, Gary Sheldon Cannon Judy and Roger Sandall Cannon Jean. He has six grandsons, who brought joy and laughter to his life, Darren Merry, Dustin, Courtney Patty, Cody Julie, Jake Sarah, and Rusty. He also loved playing with his nine great-grandchildren.
Sheldon was a member of the Utah State Firemen's Association, serving as a volunteer in the Tremonton/Garland Fire Department for over 12 years, and a portion of that time was Fire Chief.
Sheldon spent the majority of his life working in the communications industry, where his primary responsibilities had both civilian and military applications. He retired in 1987 as a regional manager with Con-tel.
When he was not working, he enjoyed family get-togethers, camping and just taking rides to enjoy the sights and good company of friends.
He is survived by his loving wife, Darlene, his brother Owen Jill Cannon, Tremonton, Utah; sisters Leah Holley, Provo, Utah; Lucille Waldron, Kaysville, Utah; and Hortense Pink, Tustian California; two brother-in-laws, Jay Sandall Judy and Louis Douglas; his two sons, six grandsons, nine great-grandchildren, seven step sons and daughthers and their families.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, June 1, 2005 at 11:00 a.m. at the Tremonton Stake Center located at 660 North 300 East, Tremonton. Family and friends may call Tuesday, May 31, 2005 from 6-8 p.m. at Rogers and Taylor Funeral Home located at 111 North 100 East, Tremonton and Wednesday morning from 9:30-10:30 a.m. prior to the funeral at the church.
Interment will be at the Tremonton Riverview Cemetery.
