Sharon L Porter

April 15, 1947 — September 29, 2010

Sharon Nielsen Porter After enduring with great courage, the deteriorating effects of Alzheimer's disease, our beautiful and loving mother, grandmother, aunt, sister and friend passed away on Wednesday, September 29, 2010, at the age of 63. Sharon was born April 15, 1947 in Rexburg, Idaho to Eldred and Leah Nielsen. She was raised in a loving home, and enjoyed a deep love of her parents, and siblings, and later, her children, grandchildren, and spouse, Cecil E. Porter. Time with immediate and extended family was important to Sharon, and she showed particular devotion to her parents, and displayed remarkable unbounded love for all people. Sharon had a rare and gifted flair for leaving each person she associated with feeling special. Sharon believed she could do anything she put her mind to, and as time passed, everything she put her mind to was accomplished. Sharon gave a substantial portion of her time bringing joy into people's lives by sewing beautiful custom draperies and as an interior decorator. The great love of her working life came when she became affiliated with Designing Women of Reno, and later when she opened her own interior decorating business, Designs by Sharon. This work served as one more avenue for Sharon to show devotion to people and to make them feel special. Sharon was a devoted member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, and served in various assignments, but most loved was her work with Achievement Day age girls. She made each girl feel special. Sharon had a great love for the temple and attended several times a week, until her health would not allow it. Sharon will be missed by all, but most chiefly by her children, brother, sisters and friends. C.S. Lewis said, "There are no ordinary people. You have never talked to a mere mortal." Mom's elevated virtues and everything she did, and was, evidence this statement. Sharon is survived by her children, Debbie Miller, Salt Lake City, Utah; David Lori Forbush, Nibley, Utah; Jeff Gayla Forbush of Salem, Idaho; 14 grandchildren, her sister, Ladean Nielsen, West Valley City, Utah and her brother Jay Brent Janie Nielsen, of Bountiful, Utah. Sharon was preceded in death by her husband Cecil E. Porter, and her father and mother, Eldred and Leah Nielsen. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on October 4, 2010 at the Salem, Idaho 2nd Ward LDS Chapel located at 3470 N. Salem Road. A viewing will be held on the same day from 11:30-12:30 pm. at the church. Interment will be in the Sugar City Cemetery. As a family, we extend special thanks to the devoted members of the Smithfield 13th Ward for their support of mom before her placement at Sunshine Terrace, and the unbounded compassion of the staff on wing 1 at Sunshine Terrace. We also offer special appreciation to Brent and Janie Nielsen and Ladean Nielsen for their demonstrations of love for mom over the past seven years, and to Judy Mckay of Reno, Nevada for demonstrating what a true friend is. Without question! You will always be mom's best friend! Condolences and memories may be shared with the family at www.nelsonfuneralhome.com
