Lewiston, UT/Vienna, VA - Sharma Hawkins Sleight, 66, died on Saturday, October 8, 2011 in Vienna, VA at her home after a long and courageous battle with cancer. She was born September 18, 1945 in Lewiston, UT to Clarence Orson and Pearl Kent Hawkins.
Sharma graduated from North Cache High School in 1963. She and LaMar were married in the Logan Temple, July 1, 1963. For nearly 30 years she followed her husband from one military assignment to another retiring in Vienna, Virginia in 1993.
She was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in many teaching and leadership positions. Sharma served faithfully as a volunteer teacher and coordinator for the early morning seminary program for the youth of the church ages 14-18 for over 10 years. At the time of her death she was serving as an Assistant to the Matron of the Washington, DC Temple in Kensington, MD. Her hobbies included golf, bowling, sewing, reading, gardening and serving others. Her highest priority in her life was her family which was a source of constant joy and satisfaction to her. She will be dearly missed by those who know and love her. She is survived by her husband T. LaMar Sleight; her children Lesa Lynne Keith Brown, Cynthia Lee Brett Cummings, Michele Dawn Aaron Mendenhall, Todd LaMar Jillian Sleight, Craig Aaron Adrianne Sleight and Nicole Grace Jacob Reid; 17 grandchildren Taylor Nicole Brown, Megan Brown Kevin Robinson, Gage Bartholomew, Savanna Cummings, Katelyn Brown, Casadie Cummings, Parker Cummings, Samantha Sleight, Elizabeth Sleight, Sydney Sleight, Ryan Sleight, Tyson Sleight, Ellie Mendenhall, Cooper Sleight, Andrew Sleight, Brooke Mendenhall, and Zackary Sleight, 2 great grandchildren Karter and Klesa Robinson and by her siblings Alfred Lynn Hawkins, Sherolyn Tom Egelund, MarDene Dale Ferguson, Orson Earl Vicki Hawkins, Jean Roger Seamons and Janice Wayne Seyfert. Sharma was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, Larry and Kim Hawkins and one sister, Linda Hawkins Wilkins.
Funeral Service will be held Saturday, October 15, 2011 1:00 p.m. at the Lewiston 1st Ward LDS Chapel, 1600 W. Center St., Lewiston, UT 84320. Friends may call Saturday at the church from 11:00a.m.-12:30p.m. Interment will be in the Lewiston Cemetery, Lewiston, UT. The family suggests contributions in Sharma's name be made to the Temple Patron Assistance Fund-
