Layton – Seymour McClellan Fonnesbeck, 91, passed away on Tuesday, June 12, 2012. He was born on January 14, 1921 in the family home in Logan, Utah, the son of Victor Christian Fonnesbeck and Veva McClellan Fonnesbeck. He grew up working on the family farm where he learned the value of hard work. Seymour enlisted in the Utah National Guard in 1939 and then joined the Army Air Corp in 1941. He was a World War II veteran and he served in the South West Pacific Area as a bombardier. He retired from the Air Force in 1966. He moved to Layton, Utah, and worked as a civil servant at Hill AFB from 1967 to 1983. During his military service, he lived in Utah, Illinois, Japan, New York, Alaska and Maryland. His employment and vacations took him to many countries throughout the world. Seymour married Leila Marie Holmes on December 5, 1945 in Ogden. Their marriage was solemnized in the Logan Temple in 1959. He served as a ward and stake clerk in the LDS church for many years and was a faithful home teacher.
Seymour loved owning a new car and indulged regularly. Seymour and Marie enjoyed their winter home in Yuma, Arizona for 20 years. He was happy and content with his life and the things he had accomplished. Seymour is survived by Marie, his wife of 66 years, and their four children: Veva Sue Greg Bart, Dale DeAnn Fonnesbeck, Dean Becky Fonnesbeck and Ann Bryce Wheelwright. He is also survived by 20 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren and one sister Joyce Jacobs. He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, four sisters and one great-grandchild, Elijah Williams. There will be a visitation on Sunday, June 17, 2012 from 6:00 – 8:00 pm at the Wasatch Chapel, 789 E. Wasatch Drive, Layton. Funeral services will be held at Nelson Funeral Home in Logan 162 E. 400 N. on Monday, June 18, 2012 at 11:00 a.m., with a viewing from 9:30-10:40 a.m. Interment will follow in the Smithfield Cemetery.
