Sarah Ann Mobley Skanchy

Sarah Ann was born October 15, 1928 in Los Angeles, California, the second child of four born to Eugene Fitzgerald Mobley and Alta Maude Turman. Her parents were both descendants of very early settlers in America from New York south to North Carolina and west through Kentucky and Tennessee. They met in Idaho and married in California. She is a great-great granddaughter of Joel Ricks and Eleanor Martin Ricks, early settlers of Cache Valley. She passed away in Logan, Utah Wednesday, October 7, 2009 from the effects of Ideopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis. Always a student, she graduated from UCLA in 1950 with a major in Political Science and with a JD from the UCLA School of Law in 1953 in its second graduating class. As an Attorney, she worked in Washington, D.C. for the Federal Communications Commission and in Burbank, California for the National Broadcasting Company until her marriage to Army Major Robert Kelly Skanchy on March 11, 1968 in the Logan Temple. He passed away in 1990. They adopted two Vietnamese children who survive her: Nancy Skanchy-Stone Robin and Don Lee Skanchy Kaylene. She is also survived by seven grandchildren and three great grandchildren, her brother Eugene Fitzgerald Mobley, Jr. Carolyn and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins, as well as Skanchy relatives. Sarah Ann served as an elected official for 22 years in Cache County, both for Logan City and the County. There will be no viewing. A short funeral service will be held at Nelson Funeral Home, 162 East 400 North, Logan at 12:00 noon Friday, October 16, 2009. Please no flowers, but donate to a charity of your choice. Interment will be in the Logan City Cemetery. Condolences may be extended to the family online at www.nelsonfuneralhome.com .
