Sara Bingham Petersen

August 14, 1910 — June 21, 2003

In the early morning hours of Saturday, June 21, 2003, Sara Sally Bingham Smith Petersen 91 passed away peacefully, surrounded by loved ones and in her own home in Tremonton. The youngest of six children born to Lot Smith, Jr. and Sara Louisa Bingham Smith, Sally was born September 14, 1911 in Holbrook, Idaho. Following the
early deaths of both parents, Sally was raised by her aunt, Nannie Smith Ashcroft. Educated in Box Elder County, Sally graduated from Box Elder High School in 1929, and as a registered nurse from Thomas D. Dee Nursing School in 1932.
Sally was the first county health nurse for Box Elder County. During WWII, under the auspices of the Red Cross, Sally provided medical care to German prisoners of war. Throughout the entire war, Sally also had the responsibility to notify families when family members were killed or injured in combat areas. Throughout her entire adult life, Sally provided knowledgeable and compassionate health care to neighbors and loved ones. Her ?healing hands? were legend. Sally worked for many years at the Valley Hospital in Tremonton, with Doctors Edgar H. and Wendell White, and at the Logan LDS Hospital. She was especially proud of her work in the Intensive Care Unit. While working in public health in Box Elder County, Sally met and married Colen C Petersen, who preceded her in death in 1974. They are the parents of three sons and three daughters. A member of the LDS church, Sally served in the Relief Society but her real love was working with her Blazers. She also was an active member of the Daughters of the Utah Pioneers, Golden Spike camp. Sally is survived by her six children: Andrea, Tremonton; Roger Patricia, Mequon, WI.; Larry Kathy, Pingree, ID; Meta Ron Croney, Tremonton; Alice Craig Callister, Bountiful; James Melanie, Tremonton. She is also survived by thirteen grandsons and thirteen granddaughters, and eighteen plus one soon-to-be-born great-grandchildren. She is also survived by one brother, Rosco Doc Smith, Malad/Logan; two sisters-in-law Grace Smith, formerly of Logan and Barbara Petersen, North Logan. Our family is deeply indebted to all those who helped us fulfill our mother?s wish to remain in her own home. Thank you Rob, Rachel, Vicki and Meagan from Hospice for your many kind and loving acts of service. Funeral services will be held Wednesday June 25th, at the Tremonton 3rd Ward, 9590 N. 6800 W. at 11:00 a.m. A viewing will be held at Rogers and Taylor Funeral Home, 111 North 100 East, Tremonton Tuesday evening from 6-8 p.m. and 9:00 a.m. until 10:45 on Wednesday the 25th at the church. In lieu of flowers, contributions to the Perpetual Education Fund of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints would be appreciated.
