Sadie Alice Hulse Parker passed away on January 13, 2014. At the age of 92. Sadie was born in Smithfield, Utah to Charles Hulse and Alice Millard Hulse on April 4, 1921. She was raised in Smithfield and graduated from North Cache High School. She rode the train from the bank in Smithfield to North Cache every day. During the long depression, her three sisters and brother worked in the family garden and raised pigs and chickens to put food on the table. Because jobs and money was scant during these years, Sadie also earned a few cents tending children and later worked at Mode O Day. She met James S. Parker at a dance at the Dansante, and in a couple of years they were married in Preston, Idaho on September 13, 1941. The marriage was later solemnized in the Logan Utah Temple. Sadie purchased a small home in Wellsville during her husbands service in the military. After his return, they purchased a farm. James also supplemented the family's income as a heavy equipment blade operator. After Sadie raised her children she accompanied her husband during the week at construction sites in Utah, Idaho and Wyoming. Sadie loves people and made many friends with other working couples as well as many local residents. After Jim retired, they spent winters in Santa Clara, Utah. They enjoyed the warmer winters and opened their home to many friends and family. She loved to cook and made a comfortable home for her family. She ensured her children were taught the gospel and uplifted many family, friends and neighbors with her cheerfulness and optimistic attitude. She especially loved to give and receive hugs from all of her children and grandchildren. Her children are James H. Joan Parker of Wellsville, Diane DeVon Mathews of Wellsville, Faye H. Parker deceased and Vickie Jeff Ricks of Benson. They have nine grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren and 3 great-great grandchildren. Sadie has always been a great wife, mother, sister and grandmother. We want to tell her how much we love and appreciate her.
