Tremonton: On May 19, 2002, Saddie Fern Jones Montgomery, 89, passed peacefully away in her sleep at Logan Regional Hospital. Fern was born April 4, 1913, to George Roy and Mary Maria Chadwick Jones in Malta, Idaho. She married her sweetheart, Charles Vernal Montgomery, December 5, 1932. Later their family became eternal in the Logan LDS temple. She loved nature and the beautiful things in it. As a sidekick to her husband, a government trapper, she helped him hunt, trap and fish the backcountry. Fern worked hard throughout her life and was the first woman hired by the state to work on the road. She also worked at Thiokol and the turkey plant in Tremonton. Her greatest love in life was her family, which includes many friends. As a good cook, she was known for her delicious bread and open table for unexpected visitors. She spent many hours lovingly crocheting Afghans to give away as special gifts. She loved the gospel and served in many capacities. Surviving are one sister, one son and four daughters: Maurine and Keith Sargent, West Valley, UT; Avanell and Rulon Darrington, Toquerville, UT; Bob and Donna Montgomery, Brigham City, UT; Donna and Gary Scoffield, Pat and Dennis Hirschi, Curtis and Robbin Kaneko, all of Tremonton; 36 grandchildren, 113 great grandchildren, and 22 great great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband; one daughter, JoAnn; three grandchildren; two sisters, LaVaughn and Triphosa; two brothers, Chad and Renaldo. Funeral services will be held Thursday, May 23, 2002, 11:00 a.m. at the Deweyville/Riverview LDS Ward Chapel, 10750 North Highway 38. Friends may call Wednesday, May 22nd from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Rogers and Taylor Funeral Home, 111 North 100 East, Tremonton and Thursday, May 23rd from 9:30 to 10:40 a.m. at the church.
