Ruth Elaine Clawson Chambers, passed from this life into the arms of her beloved husband, Monday, October 8, 2007. Ruth was either the 2nd or 3rd her twin brother Reid will account to the other of 7 children born to Otto & Irene Olsen Clawson on November 7, 1917 in Hyrum, Ut. On September 24, 1940, she married the love and best friend of her life, George Ferris Chambers in the Logan Temple, bought a farm in Trenton and began the journey of their life. With this special marriage entered two wonderful children, Elayne and George Ferris, Jr. Ruth?s life was full of service to family and neighbors. She nursed Elayne back to health for many years, as she was stricken with polio as a child, and never complained once in doing so. Despite her never ending devotion to taking care of Elayne, she was a very helpful farm hand to her husband. She was in the fields as much as he was and knew exactly what was expected of her even before she was expected to do anything. A wonderful cook, and gardener, she prided herself in being able to provide for her family with what she could hoe, make, bake, or sew. She worked with Ferris with whatever he needed an extra hand in doing. Ruth did not complain about anything and was always thinking about others first. Making sure others had enough food to eat and were comfortable in their surroundings. She was the last person she ever thought about. Ruth was a very independent woman. She was never afraid to work hard. She has proved that over and over again, for the past 30 years since the passing of Ferris, in taking care of all her needs by herself. At his passing in November 1977, she moved to Smithfield so that her travels to Logan would not have to be so far, as well as being able to be close to her daughter. Her son Jr. took his family to live on the family farm and has resumed the hard work his father and mother had taught him from his youth. He followed their example and has kept the farm running as his father would have done. Ruth?s sweet motto was: ?You just do what you have to do?. That she did without any complaints. Life was not easy as she watched her husband quickly pass from this life, but she moved on and what an example of strength, dedication and commitment she has been to her family. Her love for her husband never diminished. Her wish was that someday they would be together again, forever. That wish has now come to pass and what a sweet reunion that had to be. He has to be so proud of her and beaming from ear to ear at her wonderful accomplishments in life, and what a wonderful embrace they were able to give to one another once again. Ruth loved the Gospel of Jesus Christ. She was a perfect example of selfless love and service for all to follow. Ruth has left behind one surviving younger brother, Claine Zada Clawson. Brothers and sisters-in-law include: Lennis Chambers, Aileen Ray Minkler, Mary Scott Bair, Tacy Oral Ballam, Ruth Dean Harrison and Faye LeGrand Shupe, with numerous nieces and nephews. Surviving also is her daughter, Elayne Dan Shaffer and son, George Ferris, Jr. LaRene Chambers. The most prized surviving members of her and Ferris? family include 5 wonderful grandchildren: Todd Amy Shaffer, Brian Jennifer Chambers, Cody Toni Chambers, Aaron Erika Chambers, Ashley Jonathan Price. And, the most extra special survivors are her 5 soon to be 7 great grandchildren who loved their Grandma very much and she was so proud of them: Nicholas, Mason Kylie, Kyler and Brynlie. A viewing for Ruth will be held Thursday, October 11, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Nelson Funeral Home, 85 South Main, Smithfield. . So many heart felt thanks go to so many people who have been there to help and assist Ruth for the past 10 months. From Logan Regional Hospital with the initial care, to the paramedics with her transfer then to LDS Hospital, back to Logan Nursing, Hospice for Utah, and finally to Williamsburg. So very many wonderful caring and loving hands of doctors, nurses and aides watched over her and took special interest in our mother and grandmother, as she became a part of them and they became a part of our lives, who have touched us forever. We thank you very much.
