Ruth M. Bassett, 92, former resident of Logan, passed away April 12, 2008 in Gilbert, Arizona. She was born March 18, 1916 to James B. McQueen and Leah Smith in Preston, Idaho. Ruth was raised in Idaho and attended the local schools there. She met Preston Rowe Bassett and they were married in the Logan Temple on November 24, 1936. They were blessed with a family of five boys and one girl. They lived in Idaho, Utah and Arizona. Ruth enjoyed volunteer work at Sunshine Terrace, the Logan Senior Center and the Senior Center in Gilbert, Arizona, where she quilted, wrote poetry, danced and made many friends. She was a member of the Daughters of Utah Pioneers. As a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, she enjoyed serving in the Primary, the Relief Society and singing in the church choir. She was always eagerly willing to help others. While living in Gilbert with her son, Dave, she was delighted to serve as a service missionary at the Arizona Training Center in Randolph by taking Primary to the severely handicapped residents there. She made bookmarks for all of them and many others whom she came in contact with. Ruth enjoyed crocheting rugs from rags and painting. She loved working crossword puzzles, putting together jigsaw puzzles, and playing solitaire and kings corner. She found joy and happiness in all she did. Most of all, she loved spending time with her family. She is survived by her children: Mack Marlene, West Valley City, Ut; David Charlene, Gilbert, Az;; Lynn Voyle, Logan, Ut; Jay Dixie, Smithfield, Ut; Sylvan Erica, Logan, Ut; two sisters: Joan McNeel and Elsa Crookston. She is also survived by 26 grandchildren; 46 great grandchildren and 4 great-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Preston; a daughter, Julene; 5 brothers and 1 sister. Funeral services will be held at 12:00 noon Friday, April 18, 2008 at the Smithfield 10th ward chapel, 345 East 300 South. Friends and family may call from 10:00 to 11:30 a.m. at the church prior to services. Interment will be in the Preston, Idaho Cemetery. Condolences may be extended to the family online at
