Rulon Lester ?Les? Facer, 82, died of age related causes, February 8, 2004 in Harrisburg, Oregon. He was born April 18, 1921 in Smithfield, Utah to Lester E. and Rosabel Bingham Facer. Les married Mabel Hughes August 15, 1942 in Yearington, Nevada. They had two sons: Melvin Hugh Facer, who died in 1986 and Rex L. Facer. The Facer?s live next to their son Rex in the rural Harrisburg area. Les served in the Army during WW II in Europe. After the war he worked on Hoover Dam and other construction projects in the Las Vegas area. In 1948, Les and Mabel moved to Eugene. He was superintendent on many highway bridges throughout Oregon and Northern California for several major bridge contractors. He was the superintendent on the Washington-Jefferson Street Bridge in Eugene. He was a 50 year member of the United Brotherhood of Carpenters of American Union. He had to retire in 1981 after major back surgery. He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Mabel, his son Rex; three sisters: Rosalyn Hansen and Carolyn Brown both living in Salem, Oregon and Barbara Wimmer of Logan, Utah. Three brothers: Conrad of Washington, Utah; Wilford of Salt Lake City, Utah and Wade of Logan, Utah; 7 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren with two more on the way and one great-great grandchild. Les liked to go deer hunting, fishing for trout, salmon, and gardening. After retiring he enjoyed traveling in their motor home. He was president of the Oregon Trail Drivers Chapter of the Family Motor Coach Association in 1995 and 1996. He also was a life member of Veterans of Foreign Wars, Post #7384 and was a past Charter member of the Coburg Lyons Club. He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, Eugene 2nd Ward. Services in Oregon were held Wednesday February 11, 2004. Local services will be held Saturday, February 14, 2004 at 11:30 a.m. at the Smithfield 1st/2nd Ward Chapel, 175 South 100 West. Friends and family may call Friday evening, February 13, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Nelson Funeral Home, 85 South Main, Smithfield and Saturday morning from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. at the church prior to services. Interment will be in the Smithfield City Cemetery with military honors provided by the Smithfield American Legion Post 58. Condolences may be extended to the family online at
