Ruby Mockli Pond

August 25, 1921 — July 28, 2013

Ruby Mockli Pond, 91, passed away peacefully on Sunday, July 28, 2013. She was born August 25, 1921in Preston, Idaho to Henry and Freida Kristen Mockli. Ruby was the 13th of 15 children. She had 7 sisters and 7 brothers. She was known affectionately by her siblings as "Gitzy Gaze". Her siblings proved to be her most stalwart companions and fiercest competitors. Even with her size, she could "pack a punch". She graduated from Preston High School in 1939. After high school Ruby answered the call to serve her country during WWII working as a cab driver, a nurses-aide at a Veteran's Hospital, and "Rosie the Riveter." She embodied the personality traits acquired by this generation: bravery, courage, loyalty, honesty, selflessness, dedication and perseverance. She married Harold Alex Pond on April 7, 1947. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Logan LDS Temple. Throughout her life she held a variety of jobs. One that always brought fond memories was a ladies dress shop she owned and operated in Smithfield called the Apple Tree. She had an innate sense of fashion. Forever and always a trend setter. She had an unquenching thirst for excitement and adventure. She filled up many passports with her world wide travels. She loved learning about the countries, culture, and people of each new destination. Ruby had the innate gift of making all of those around her feel at ease. She had a genuine love and concern for everyone. Her contagious laugh and uncanny desire to root for the "underdog" made her a crowd favorite. She was the perfect combination of fire and ice, sweet and sour, stubborn and spunk. She was a fierce friend. She cherished the friendships she had. Her family would like to sincerely thank her life long friends for enjoying the journey with Ruby. She was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. Her faith and conviction sustained her throughout all of life's trials. She lived the gospel out loud. The pure love of Christ shone from her eyes. Her genuine charitable nature was evident in all she did. Whether you were lucky enough to be the recipient of her infectious smile or words of wisdom, you knew that she truly cared. She will continue to be an amazing example of faith, humor, gratitude, and service to her children, grandchildren and all those she came in contact with. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Harold Pond, a son Jody Pond, a daughter Kandace Pond Oldroyd, her seven brothers, and six of her sisters. She is survived by a sister Ida Stan Jorgenson, her daughter Tamara Clair Selley, son Larry Jamie Pond, son in-law Randy Oldroyd, 12 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild, along with many nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends.
