On April 25, 2003, a kind and gentle man, Roy James Larsen, 85, passed from our sight, but not from our hearts. He was born in Logan, Utah October 8, 1917 to James Joseph and Irene Elizabeth Taylor Larsen. Roy married Dora Margaret Price on September 11th, 1940 and set a wonderful example of a husband cherishing his wife for over 62 years. They had a heavenly marriage while still on earth. Roy lived a full and active life of service to his family, his church, and community. As an active member of the LDS Church he held many ward and stake positions. Some of the highlights included serving as a missionary in the Temple Square Visitor Center Mission, as a Bishop in a married student ward and as a temple officiator. He enjoyed politics, was devoted to the Republican Party, and was delighted that his last years were spent under a Republican President! He enjoyed being a member of the Kiwanis Club serving as President and Lieutenant Governor. As a successful businessman, his philosophy was that making money should be a by-product of doing something one liked to do. He was always focused on serving the customer whether it was in the soft drink business or selling Hallmark Cards. Roy?s love of sports began with baseball as a boy, and then tennis and golf. A long time member of Logan Golf and Country Club, he also belonged to HUG Happy Utah Golfers and GGG Great Gentlemen Golfers. He had many special friendships with golfers all over the state through these associations. He was also a great USU Aggie fan, sometimes being one of the last still in the stands, covered with a foot of snow, as the football game ended. He is survived by his wife Dora; sister, Shirley Fornoff; children, Gary Kathryn of Phoenix, AZ., Craig Gail of Stockton, CA, Steven of Logan, Jennifer Baird of Orem, Suzanne Monte Buttars of Kennewick, WA, Paul Kandi of Logan, Douglas Lisa of Orem; 31 grandchildren and 35 great-grandchildren. Preceding Roy in death are his parents, sister, Verba Greaves, brothers, Darwin and Golden, daughter-in-law, Elizabeth Cragun Larsen, son-in-law, Theron Baird, and great grandson, Eric Zachary Wood. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, May 1, 2003 at 12:00 Noon in the Logan 24th Ward Chapel, 1260 N. 1600 E. There will be viewings Wednesday, April 30, at Nelson Funeral Home, 162 East 400 North from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. and prior to the services at the church from 10:00 to 11:30 a.m. In Roy?s memory, contributions may be made at any branch of Zion?s Bank to the Brian James Cancer Fund. Brian is a five-year-old great grandson suffering from brain cancer. Condolences may be extended online at

. The family would like to express deep appreciation to many kind and compassionate friends, neighbors, doctors, nurses, hospice employees and volunteers who helped in caring for Roy. Your efforts granted him his wish to spend his last days at home. Heavenly Father cared enough to send us the very best.
