Rosalie Spackman Hancey

October 3, 1924 — January 14, 2014

LEWISTON – Rosalie Hyer Spackman Hancey passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on Tuesday, January 14, 2014, at the Sunrise Park Senior Living Center in Lewiston, Utah. She is greatly missed by all of her family and friends. For those who knew Rosalie, she was a wonderful mother, gramma, and friend. Rosalie was born on October 3, 1924 in Lewiston, Utah. She was the second child of seven that were born to Ira and Valeria Hyer. She grew up in Lewiston and graduated from North Cache High School. During World War II, Rosalie helped in the war effort by working in the More Island Navy Base. After the war, she met her sweetheart, Gale Spackman. They were sealed in the Idaho Falls Temple on October 1, 1946. Rosalie and Gale made their home in Lewiston and raised their family. After Gale passed away September 30, 1969, Rosalie married Robert J Hancey on August 30, 1972. Rosalie and Bob spent 24 summers at Nancy Lake, Alaska and the winters in Cache Valley. Bob passed away October 22, 1996.
Rosalie had a rich full life - full of love, work, fun, happiness, along with many tears. Rosalie had many talents and gifts that she shared with many. Her kitchen was filled with aromas and delicious food to share with anyone who entered her home. Rosalie crafted her homemaking skills by knitting, crocheting, and sewing. She shared her talents with friends and family. One of her passions was fishing the beautiful rivers in Alaska. She was an avid Jazz and Aggie fan. Rosalie was a member of a pinochle club for over fifty years. She supported her children and grandchildren in all activities – she was one proud Gramma. High Creek Canyon was a special place to Rosalie and her family which provided many happy memories. Rosalie was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints where she served in many positions.
Rosalie was preceded in death by her parents, husbands Ether Gale Spackman and Robert J Hancey, two sons, Clinton Gale and Blaine H Beth, one great grandson BJ Larsen Ally, and sister, Lydia Commish Clair, deceased. She is survived by her brothers and sisters, Wendell Hyer Connie, IraLu Stoddard Dan, deceased, Larry Hyer Colleen, Andrew Hyer Marilyn, and Annette Hansen Sheridan. She is also survived by her five children Sally Baer Chandler of Smithfield, Kelly H Spackman Marileeof Fairview, Shannon Deets Tony of Vernal, Coy Mickelsen Wendell South Jordan, and Mooch Spackman of Hyde Park. Rosalie had eighteen grandchildren, and twenty-eight great grandchildren. Her legacy will remember her of caring love given to all especially the grandkids.
Her children have wonderful memories of her and will greatly miss her! We love you, Mom! The family would like to thank Dr. Russell Hirst and the Sunrise Park Senior Living Center for the care and love shown to our mother.
There will be a viewing on Friday, January 17th from 6:00 to 8:00 at the Nelson Funeral Home, 85 South Main, Smithfield, Utah. An additional viewing will be held 9:30 – 10:30 at the Lewiston Fourth Ward Chapel, 16 South Main, Lewiston, Utah. Services will be held at 11:00 a. Interment will be in the Lewiston Cemetery.
