On the morning of Sunday, August 17, 2003, Roma Alder Nilson, 84, was permitted to leave this life and join her husband, family and friends who have gone on before. She was born in Ridgedale, Idaho on September 23, 1918 to Leon Conrad and Vesta Freelove Campbell Alder. At the age of four years, her family moved to their home in Providence, Utah but continued to spend summers and the time needed to operate their farm in Pocatello Valley. While her father and brothers and others ran their large farm, her job as the only girl in the family, was to help with providing bountiful meals for them each day. Winters were spent in Providence where she attended school. She graduated from South Cache High School and attended Utah State Agricultural College. She married Dale I. Nilson on May 29, 1941 in the Logan Temple soon after he returned from a mission to Sweden. They worked together to operate their farm and over time she continued to provide many meals for hungry boys and men who helped them with their dairy and farm work. She was a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served with diligence in the several callings that she received in the different organizations of the church. Many winter months were spent serving in the temple and doing genealogical work. She had many health challenges in her life, but accepted them as part of the trials of this life with the faith and courage to endure to the end. She will be missed by those who knew and loved her, but who know that she has gone to a better life, which is free of the pains and problems of earth life. She is survived by three brothers: Seth Alder of Providence; Conrad Roma Jean Alder and Kay Aniece Alder of Malad, Idaho and sisters-in-law: Jennie Alder of Malad, Lawana Larsen and Nereece Paul Herd of Smithfield. She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents and two brothers, Lynn and Claude and a sister-in-law, Elaine Alder. Bishop Steven Jenson will conduct her funeral services at noon on Wednesday, August 20, 2003 at the Smithfield 14th Ward Chapel, 345 East 300 South. There will be a viewing Tuesday evening from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Nelson Funeral Home, 85 South Main, Smithfield and at the church on Wednesday morning from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. Burial will be in the Smithfield City Cemetery.
