Roma Erickson Andersen

June 16, 2003 — August 27, 2003

Our beloved mother and grandmother, Roma E. Andersen, passed from this mortality the morning of August 27, 2003, from natural causes. Her tremendous presence will be missed by all that knew her. Roma was born in Smithfield, Utah on June 16, 1921 to Erick William and Rachel Noble Erickson. She was the oldest of ten children. She was educated in the Cache County public school system and attended Utah State University. During World War II, she blew glass, making radio tubes in Salt Lake City. While attending USU, she met and married her eternal companion, Glenn C Andersen of Arbon, Idaho, on January 13, 1943. Her trademark was her incredible smile that she shared with everyone she met. Roma and Glenn had four children: Glenna Lynn Payne, Trenton, UT; Marilyn Dan Henrie, Richfield, UT; Ronald Glenn Rose Eagan, MN; and John William Tammy, Loma, CO. She had 16 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. Roma and Glenn spent most of the first half of their marriage in Smithfield. In 1975, they moved to Vernal, UT. Although Roma always called Smithfield home, she eventually made Vernal home and greatly missed her friends and neighbors in Vernal. During her life in Smithfield and Vernal, she was an active member of Civic Music, Smithfield Lady Lions, Literary Club, Progressive Arts Club, and the Vernal Lions Club. Roma was active in the LDS church serving in the Primary Presidency, Stake Primary, Ward and Stake Relief Society, and as Primary chorister. She spent many years teaching young primary children songs about the Gospel. As a teenager, Roma had rheumatic fever. This limited her lifestyle for the rest of her life. Roma always kept an immaculate home-preparing food for her family and welcoming family and friends. During the last 30 years of their marriage, Roma and Glenn traveled extensively-a lot of it visiting family and friends in the West, but also traveling from Hawaii to Europe and from Alaska to Mexico. Roma is survived by her children and grandchildren, and the following brothers and sisters: Ruth Rulon Jones, Delta, UT; Evelyn Jay Gubler, Ethelyn Carroll Hodges, Elaine Denzil Coleman, all of Smithfield; Noble Ila Erickson, currently serving an LDS mission in South Carolina; Vincent Kay Erickson, Hyde Park; Terry LaDawn Erickson and Roy Erickson, Fair Oaks, CA; and the following brothers and sisters-in-law: Hazel Terry, Mesa, AZ; Mamie Andersen, Pocatello, ID; and Norman Tanga Andersen, Santa Clara, UT; numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, a sister, Bessie Bernice, and a great-granddaughter. Funeral services will be held Saturday, August 23, 2003 at 11:00 a.m. at Nelson Funeral Home, 162 East 400 North, Logan, UT. A viewing will be held Friday, August 29, 2003 from 6-8 p.m. at Nelson Funeral Home, 85 South Main, Smithfield, UT and one hour prior to services on Saturday at Nelson Funeral Home in Logan. Interment will be in the Smithfield City Cemetery. Condolences may be extended to the family at www.nelsonfuneralhome.com . The family would like to extend their thanks to Williamsburg Retirement Center, Dr. Agnes Szpunar and staff and Sunshine Terrace?s Wing 4 for the excellent care that was extended to Roma.
