Rolen Lloyd Bird

Rolen Lloyd Bird, 87, of Logan, Utah, passed away on July 16, 2006, at the Sunshine Terrace Nursing Center, of causes incident to age. Lloyd was born in Murray, Utah, to Rolen Veron and Beatrice McKendrick Bird on September 1, 1918. On November 22, 1946, he married Alieen Christiansen in the Salt Lake Temple. They were married for 59 ½ years. Lloyd lived in Murray, Utah; Corvallis, Oregon; Salt Lake City and Logan. He graduated from Logan High School. He then went on to Utah State University and then took the Civil Service Exam and went to work at Hill Air Force Base in Ogden as an Electrical Specialist on the aircraft. He was then drafted into the Navy during World War II and served from 1944 to 1946. He was discharged from the service in June 1946 while serving in the Aleutian Islands. He returned to Hill Air Force Base and worked there for 29 years. He was a hard worker and worked part time at Glenn?s Electric. Lloyd?s hobbies included skiing, snowmobiling, four-wheeling and bobcat hunting, which he enjoyed with family and many friends. He loved the outdoors. He also had a love of animals of all kinds. Lloyd was a member of the Sons of the Pioneers and an active member of the LDS Church. He especially liked scouting. He was Sectratary of the Elders Quorum, Assistant Scout Master and a Home Teacher. At the time of his death, he was a High Priest in the Willow Valley 2nd Ward. He loved the church in his quiet way and supported his family in their church activity. He will be missed by many who knew him and dearly loved him. Lloyd is survived by his wife, Alieen; one son, Alan Ileen Bird, Smithfield, Utah; two daughters, Dee Ann Gerald Smith, Syracuse, Utah, and Janis Scott Borchert, Orem, Utah; one son-in-law Randall Saxton, Smithfield, Utah; 19 grandchildren and 40 great- grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Carmen Vernon Bangerter; one daughter, Jeanine Bird Saxton; and a grandson, Terry Jon Smith. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, July 19, 2006, at 12:00 noon at Nelson Funeral Home, 162 East 400 North, Logan. There will be a viewing held on Tuesday, July 18, 2006 from 6-8 p.m. at Nelson Funeral Home and on Wednesday from 10:30 ? 11:30 a.m. Interment will be in the Logan City Cemetery.
