Robert Ronald Myers

June 18, 1940 — August 17, 2011

Robert Ronald "Ron" Myers, 71, unexpectedly passed away on August 17th, 2011, while in the arms of his loving wife, Vicky Balls Myers. Ron was born June 18th 1940 in Lilly, PA to Earl and Edna "McGarry" Myers of Scanlan Hill. He was the oldest of six children. He had 4 sisters, Lois Carpenter Valley Station, Ky Barbara Ann Walters Williamsport, Pa, Marilyn Nadolsky Lilly, Pa, Janet Grove Cresson, Pa and his favorite and only brother Earl Myers Tyrone, Pa. He graduated from Lilly High School in 1958 and served in the United States Army from June 6th, 1958 until June of 1961. Ron and his best friend Ed Walters Mannville, NJ enlisted in the army on the "Buddy plan" and completed basic training in Fort Knox, Ky. Ron and Ed remained friends throughout their lives. Ron was a combat engineer and trained as an engineer foreman at Fort Leonard Wood, MS. He was then assigned to Fort Lewis, Washington, before going to Hawaii for two years where he was attached to the headquarter platoon of the 35th Infantry Regiment of the 25th Division known as the" Cacti" division. He attained the rank of an SP4. During his years of service he was most proud of his accomplishments as a boxer, having boxed with opponents from the Air Force, Marine Corps, and Navy. After his discharge, he served in the Idaho National Guard before moving back to Pennsylvania with the 298th Maintenance Battalion of the 99th AROM at Altoona, PA for three years with the rank of Sergeant and was a member of their M-16 rifle team. He was also a member of the American Legion in Smithfield, UT. Four of Ron's sons and his son in law are also military veterans. Mike served in the Navy as a ship electrician; Geoffrey served the Air Force as a Korean linguist. Daniel served in the Navy as an aircraft electrician; Mark served in communications for the Marines. Aaron Burns served as a Civil Engineer in the Air Force. Ron is retired from Prudential and American General Life Insurance Companies where he was an agent while living near Patton, PA. Following his career he obtained work in the steel industry prior to relocating to Logan, Utah. He loved everything outdoors especially hunting, fishing, camping, and cutting his own firewood. He was an avid fan of boxing and even more so of the greatest football team on earth, the "PITTSBURGH STEELERS". He loved riding his Gold Wing anywhere and everywhere and did so as often as possible. He would tell you his biggest accomplishment was his family. He had 12 children that he called his whether they were biological or adopted, they were his. His marriage to Josephine "Jo" Seleme Myers gave him 5 beautiful children…Mike Myers Port Orchard, WA, Paul Myers Worland, Wy, Ronnie Myers Idaho Falls, Id, Margo Stohs Port Orchard, Wa, Michelle Matas Renton, Wa. His marriage of 25 years to Bobbi Ames Myers gave him Ginnifer Holland Burns Smithfield, Ut, Geoffrey Myers North Logan, Ut, Daniel and Thomas Myers Port Orchard, Wa, Mark Myers Salt Lake City, Ut, Kathleen Lindquist Logan, Utand Aaron Myers Logan, Ut. He had several nieces and nephews and more than 30 grandchildren. He was proud of every single one of them. He also had six step-children from his marriage to Vicky Balls Myers, whom he lovingly referred to as "The Last Mrs. Myers"; Amy Wood, Chris Hoth and Josh Hoth all of Smithfield, Ut, John Hoth Newton, UT, Nick Hoth Richmond and Ashley Rousey North Logan. He spent his last days enjoying returning to Pennsylvania each year to attend the large motorcycle rally "Thunder in the Valley," fixing up his house and riding his motorcycle, watching football with his sons, randomly showing up at his children's homes to have long meaningful talks about nothing, and doing puzzles with Vicky. Ron will be remembered as a man with clear intentions and a strong commitment to his personal beliefs. A Viewing will be held for the public on Sunday August 21, 2011 at 6:00 to 8 PM at the Nelson Funeral Home, 162 East 400 North, Logan, UT 84321. Funeral services will be conducted at the Logan 7th ward building, 585 East 100 South, Logan, UT 84321 at 1:00 pm on Monday, August 22nd, 2011. Following the services in Utah, his family will be traveling to Pennsylvania to carry out his final wishes. While there, the family will be gathering at the home of Rick and Marilyn Nadolski in remembrance of a great man.
The family wishes to thank his personal physician of 10 years, Dr. Jeffrey Strong, as well as Dr. Whitaker and the E.R. staff at the Logan Regional Hospital. We also wish to thank all of Ron's family and friends for their outpouring of well wishes and support.
In lieu of flowers, Please send donations to the American Heart Association, or the Ride for the Fallen honoring military veterans in North Logan, Ut on August 27, 2011.
