Fielding/Howell, UT ? Robert Lawrence Hawkes passed away August 30, 2011 at the McKay-Dee Hospital in Ogden of cancer. Robert was born April 30, 1927in Logan to Alvin Lawrence and Mabel Josephine Nielson Hawkes. Robert lived in Logan, Howell, Tremonton and Fielding. He was a graduate of Bear River High and attended BYU. He married Iris Nilson, October 24, 1951 in Smithfield, UT. She died May 1, 1994. He married Melba Hurd Coombs January 31 1997, Elko, NV. She died October 23, 2008.
Robert was a heavy equipment operator for Parson/Staker Construction. He owned and operated the Family Ranch in Howell and was a millwright for Thiokol. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, bowling and his horses. He was an Elder in the Hampton Ford LDS Ward.
Robert was a proud WWII Navy Veteran.
Surviving are two sons and two daughters, Bradly Jeaninne Hawkes, Craig Linda Hawkes both of Howell, UT; Irene Rick Wilson, Hyde Park, UT; Josie Bart Udy, Tremonton, UT; 17 grandchildren and 28 great grandchildren; Step-children include Steve Connie Coombs, Shelton, WA; VickieJim Stewart, Seattle, WA; CathyBob Peterson, Kirkland, WA; 8 step-grandchildren and 2 step-great grandchildren. He is also survived by a brother Van Lucille Hawkes, Cedar City, UT; two sisters Jean Stander Tony, deceased, Ogden; MargaretDennis Udy, Plymouth.
Robert was proceeded in death by his parents, brothers, Boyd and DeVere; two sisters Carmen Hawkes and Cloetiel Jones; granddaughter Bobbie Jo Grover and great grandson Riggin Hawkes.
Funeral services will be conducted, Saturday, September 3, 2011, 11 a.m. at the Howell LDS Ward Chapel, 16035 N.17, 400 W. Howell, UT, with Bishop Larry Hess, officiating. A viewing will be held Friday, 6-8p.m., September 2, 2011 at Rogers and Taylor Funeral Home, 111 N. 100 East, Tremonton, UT; and Saturday at the Howell church, from 9:30 to 10:40 a.m.
Burial will be in the Howell Cemetery, where military honors will be accorded by the Combined Veterans of Box Elder County.
